It seemed like a familiar story when the Giants lost the lead in the 8'th inning but they came back the hard way in the 9'th with 2 walks and 2 HBP's and Camilo Doval slammed the door on the Braves to avoid the sweep in the ATL. Key Lines:
Thairo Estrada 2B- 2 for 4, 2B, HBP. BA= .274. Estrada was heating up after coming off the IL with a fractured hand batting .370 over his last 7 games. He got hit in the opposite hand(his right) as one of the HBP's that led to the win. It looked to me like he was moving the hand around pretty good at 1B but he's be evaluated further.
Wilmer Flores 1B- 2 for 4, HR(17), HBP. BA= .301. Wilmer is having a fantastic season but in the bigger picture it's probably not a great sign if he's leading your team in HR's.
J. D. Davis DH- 2 for 5. BA= .249. Davis has been in a pretty bad extended slump(.173 over his last 30 games). Maybe he's coming out of hit with 4 hits in 8 AB's over his last 2 games.
Luis Matos LF/CF/LF/CF- 2 for 5, HR(2). BA= .245. I doubt Matos gained much strength back in Sacramento but it was good to see him hit a HR pretty deep into the bleachers to give the Giants their first lead in the second inning.
Pitchers- 9 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 14/2. Tristan Beck RHP looked fantastic against his old organization with 3 shutout innings. Camilo Doval RHP came in with 2 runners on base and 1 out in the 8'th inning. Ronald Acuna Jr scored after stealing 3B on a wild throw by Patrick Bailey C, but Doval struck out Ozuna to end the inning then after the Giants scored in the top of the 9'th, he shut them down for the W.
After the Win, the Giants trail the Phillies for the first Wild Card playoff spot by 2 games and lead the Cubs by 0.5 games for the second spot.
The Giants move on to Philadelphia for a 3-gamer against Wild Card rivals, the Phillies. Scott Alexander LHP opens Monday evening against Aaron Nola RHP. Manager Gabe Kapler confirmed Kyle Harrison LHP will be called up from AAA Sacramento and start on Tuesday. That will require dropping someone from the 40-man roster so stay tuned to Churn Watch for details.
might alex wood be DFA'd?
