Eddie Rosario's 2-out, 2-run HR in the 8'th inning off Tyler Rogers erased the Giants third lead of the game and they didn't get it back in an extremely disappointing defeat. Key Lines:
LaMonte Wade Jr 1B- 2 for 4, HR(12). BA= .259. LMWJ homered on the first pitch of the game. He later singled but pulled up slow at 1B grabbing the right side of his back and left the game for a PR.
Wade Meckler CF- 0 for 3, 3 K. BA= .179. So this last promotion might have been a bridge too far for Meck as he seems completely outclassed. Meanwhile, Heliot had several very hard hits and has been grabbing a lot of pine since. Free Heliot!
Michael Conforto RF, J. D. Davis 3B/1B and Blake Sabol C had 2 hits each from the 5, 6 and 7 spots in the lineup. Maybe a glimmer of hope this lineup can put together a rally or two.
Logan Webb RHP- 6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 5 K, GO/AO= 10/0. ERA= 3.36. Hard to tell if Webb was a bit off or if the Braves lineup is just that good. Webb blamed it on leaving too many balls over too much of he plate.
Tyler Rogers RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K, GO/AO= 3/0. ERA= 2.73. Giants appeared to be in good shape with a one run lead, 2 outs and a runner on first, but Rosario was already red hot coming intot he game and torched Webb for 3 hits. Ownage is ownage and when you're hot, you're hot. Game over.
The Loss dropped the Giants 0.5 games behind in the Wild Card race. Hey! You can't keep losing and have it not happen at some point!
Jake Junis RHP tries to stave off a sweep today facing Max Fried LHP which.....well, it doesn't look like a favorable matchup.
Churn Watch:
Ross Stripling RHP hit the IL with a back strain. Ryan Walker RHP goes on paternity leave. Sean Hjelle RHP and Casey Schmitt IF were recalled from Sacramento.
I listened to the pre game show; Marty Lurie and FP Santangelo were talking.
ReplyDeleteMarty asks "what do the Giants htters need to do?"
Essentially FP responds get aggressive and look for ways to get the ball into play, bunt, lean into the ball, strikeout less and draw more walks.
Pretty simple Eh. Giants strike out 11 times and get 1 walk.
Where is Brett Butler when you need him?
Richard in Winnipeg.
P.s. painfull , sad and frustrating to watch.
Tyler Rogers almost made it through his 2nd inning, just one more out and the Giants take a lead to the bottom of the 9th.
ReplyDeleteIt was Rogers' first multiple inning since July 25th when he also got a Blown Save. In his last 11 games he has 4 Blown Saves and 3 Holds.
It should be noted that the Giants were able to win the previous three (Blown Saves) and are 10-2 when Rogers pitches more than 1.0 innings, so, in itself, it was not a bad decision to leave him in to face the 2 LH batters who singled and homered. Also Rogers has better splits against LHB than RHB.
It's being reported that Giants plan to callup Kyle Harrison to start Tuesdays game! Good move getting his debut out of the way and giving him some MLB experience.
ReplyDeleteAndrew Baggarly has an interesting take on that in The Athletic: how the Giants would have liked his Major League debut to be at home but that would have been against "Atlanta’s lineup (that) drips with right-handed venom" next Friday. Baggardly continues with "there hasn’t been a Giants starting pitching prospect since Tim Lincecum who had Harrison’s ability to miss bats."
DeleteEven if Harrison stays up the rest of the year, he will carry his rookie status into 2024 if he stays under 50 innings the final 37 games (8 starts would require 6+ innings per game).
4 blown saves out of 11 chances seems like a lot, but its tougher to get a hold for 2 late innings. For those living in Southern California stay safe over there.
