The dawning of the Kyle Harrison Era ended in disappointment as Camilo Doval RHP gave up a bases-loaded walk-off single to Trea Turner SS for a come-from-behind win by the Phillies. Key Lines:
Thairo Estrada 2B- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .278. The top 4 batters in the lineup, LMWJ, Estrada, Wilmer and Joc went a combined 6 for 17 with 2 walks while the bottom 5 went 2 for 18 with 2 walks.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 3.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA- 5.40. Harrison gave up a 2-run HR to Bryce Harper in the first inning. Other than that, he looked quite sharp. He came out after his 65'th pitch which I'm guessing was his hard pitch count for the night. As MLB debuts go, this one seems quite promising. Just looking at some video here, it appears Harrison had his FB up to 97 MPH and sitting 95-97. He's got a very quick, short-arm delivery which makes hard to time the pitch and the ball hard to pick up before it's out of his hand.
After Harrison left it was a bullpen game which held the Phillies scoreless until the disappointing 9'th inning.
The Loss dropped the Giants out of a Wild Card position trailing the Cubs by 0.5 games.
Alex Cobb RHP tries to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon against Michael Lorenzen RHP who the Giants could have traded for at the trade deadline.
Churn Watch:
In addition to Harrison's promotion, Ryan Walker RHP was reinstated from paternity leave. Sean Hjelle RHP and Heliot Ramos OF were optioned back to AAA Sacramento. Mark Matthias IF was placed on the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster for Harrison.
This has gotten painful. Even to read about! Thank you for your perseverance and in pointing out bright spots.
ReplyDeleteIf they fail to make the playoffs as seems increasingly likely there should be management changes.
kapler and zaidi will be back next season but, they will start next year on the hot seat if they miss the playoffs. ownership needs to tighten the reins a bit this offseason. maybe pete putila should be the guy handling free agency and trades this offseason.
