Game Wrap 8/4/2016: Giants 3 Phillies 2 in 10 innings

Matt Moore was effectively wild in a QS but the Giants and Young Phils battled to a 2-2 stalemate before Denard Span hit the go-ahead dinger in the 10'th inning and Santiago Casilla came in for a 1,2,3, see ya later to salvage a win out of the 3 game series.  Key Lines:

Denard Span- 3 for 4, HR(5), SF.  BA= .265.  Span is hitting .400 over his last 7 games and .362 over his last 15.

Matt Moore- 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 6 BB, 7 K's.   ERA= 4.04.  6 BB's.  Gulp!  I guess all's well that ends well.  Hope it was butterflies from trying to impress his new teammates.

Bullpen- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  Strickland and Law had shutdown innings.  They've been pitching better of late.  Casilla shut it down in the 10'th for his 25'th Save.

The Giants maintained their 2 game lead in the NL West as the Dodgers topped the Rockies 4-2.

The Giants move on to Washington where Jeff Samardzija takes on Gio Gonzalez in game 1 tomorrow evening.

  1. Ump had a real tight zone. Moore looked good.

  2. I hope the walks were nerves, too. Even then, six walks is not pretty! I really hope Moore can harness his stuff--he could provide a nice 1-2-3 punch with Bumgarner and Cueto.

  3. Casilla looked sharp last 2 two times out. I was going to say Will Smith has inspired Casilla but that may have nothing to do with it, so I won't say it! I do worry that if we struggle with Cincy and Philly, what's in store when we visit the Nats.

    1. Philly is an underrated team. Ton of good offensive youth in that lineup. We should have done better against their pitching, but that bullpen looked pretty solid too...

    2. I agree. Philly is well on it's way into their rebuild. That bullpen is chock full of amazing arms that will only get better with experience.
