Down on the Farm: 8/13/2016

AAA  Omaha Stormchasers defeated the Sacramento River Cats 4-2:

Grant Green 2B- 2 for 4.  BA= .303.
Ruben Tejada SS- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .235.
Gorkys Hernandez CF- 3 for 4.  BA= .301.
Clayton Blackburn RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 4.56.
Cory Gearrin RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.29.

AA  Bowie Baysox outlasted the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-1 in 11 innings:

Kyle Crick RHP- 6 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 7/1.  ERA= 4.99.
Carlos Alvarado RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.64.

Cricky has just enough lines like this to make me think there is still hope for him.  Alvarado has 27 K's against just 1 BB, in 23 IP at 2 levels this season.  He is 26 yo.

High A Lancaster Jethawks strafed the San Jose Giants 16-2:

Dylan Davis RF- 1 for 4, HR(12).  BA= .298.
Jonah Arenado 1B- 1 for 4, HR(13).  BA= .267.
Carlos Diaz LHP- 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 10.24.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets beat the Lexington Legends 4-1:

Skyler Ewing 1B- 2 for 3, HR(8), BB.  BA= .256.
Junior Arias RF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(8).  BA= .299.
Heath Slatton RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.27.
Luis Pino RHP- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.08.
Ryan Koziol RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(5).  ERA= 2.88.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes buried the Everett Aquasox 11-7:

Manuel Geraldo 3B- 2 for 4, SB(9).  BA= .287.
Bryan Reynolds CF- 2 for 5.  BA= .311.
Heath Quinn RF- 4 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .336.
Ryan Howard SS- 2 for 5, HR(3).  BA= .259.
Kevin Rivera 2B- 3 for 5, HR(2).  BA= .307.

I'm impressed with what Kevin Rivera has accomplished for S-K at age 20 this season.  Like that he switch-hits.  He's got a little pop in his bat with an SLG% of .426.  Quinn has a huge game and his killing it for the Volcanoes.  Anxious to see him and Reynolds in San Jose next season.

Rookie AZL  Cubs edged out the Giants with 3 runs in the 9'th inning 3-2:

Sandro Fabian RF- 1 for 4, 3B.  BA= .333.
Chris Heston RHP- 2.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Wilson Santos RHP- 5.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 2.35

*********************************************************************************

DSL  Giants beat the Twins 7-3:

Angeddy Almanzar 1B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .305.
Francisco Medina 3B- 4 for 4, HR(3).  BA= .289.

Medina continues his torrid second half pace.  Expect to see him in Arizona next season.

  1. Ewing is on a tear! Would love to see him carry it through the remainder of the year. Sleeper in the system, let's see what A+ brings next year...

    1. Skyler Ewing got off to a tremendous start on his pro career when he hit .291 with 8 dingers for S-K the summer he was drafted in 2014. Those numbers came with more BB's than K's and the future looked really bright. Then he did a faceplant in Augusta in 2015. April and May of this season were even worse as he hit .091 and .182 respectively. June numbers were much better, he tailed off a bit in July and now he is indeed on a tear, hitting .400 over his last 10 games. It's not too late for him to get his career back on track. Look at what Dylan Davis is doing this season!

  2. I noticed that the minor league pitcher they signed today Conner Overton was a 2014 15 round pick by the Marlins and Giants are his 3rd organization already.. It seems a little odd..

Ok, The Giants found a way to ruin a beautiful Sunday afternoon. No lead is safe with this bullpen. This is the most frustrating 1st place team(for now) that I've followed.. I think the FO missed a golden opportunity to improve the 2016 team when they whiffed on acquiring Mark Melancon to pitch the 9th inning and have Casilla pitch the 8th inning.. The bullpen has been the weak point of the team all year, and don't think Will Smith is enough to solidify the bullpen..

I hope that a loss like today doesn't deflate this team even more, and a new losing streak starts.. I also hope that the team will pull together and move forward after losing Matt Duffy.. Wasn't happy about it at 1st, but that's baseball, trades like that happen.

    1. I am on record as advocating for acquiring a shut down closer at the trade deadline. I didn't realize Melancon was available or I would have been beating the drums for him. IMO, Washington did not give up a lot for him.
