Down on the Farm: 8/4/2016

AAA  Sacramento River Cats vs Albuquerque Isotopes postponed.

AA  Altoona Curve edged out the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-1:

Steven Duggar CF- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .331.
Chris Shaw 1B- 1 for 3, HR(2), BB.  BA= .214.
Tyler Beede RHP- 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 3.06.
Rodolfo Martinez RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 6.57.

Look at Young Beedah power it up in August!  Remember how stamina was the big issue in his second half collapse last year?  Uh, not this year!  Martinez has allowed just 1 ER in his last 7 appearances, 7 IP.

High A  Stockton Ports defeated the San Jose Giants 8-4 in 11 innings:

Jonah Arenado 1B- 2 for 5.  BA= .263.
Mitch Delfino 3B- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .357.
TJ Bennett 2B- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(3).  BA= .357.

Matt Winn C- 1 for 4, HR(10), BB.  BA= .229.
Ryan Halstead RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.97.

Short Season  Spokane Indians topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 6-4:

Mac Marshall LHP- 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 5.91.

Can't wait for Reynolds and Quinn to play in San Jose next year!  Marshall  with the great K/BB, but still hittable.

Rookie AZL  Giants were idle.

DSL  Orioles2 downed the Giants 5-4:

Ismael Munguia RF- 0 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .282.
Jose Rivero SS- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .261
Franklin Labour LF- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, SB(2).  BA= .246.
Ricardo Genoves 1B- 2 for 5.  BA= .280.
Aneudy Acosta RHP- 3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K's, 2 HBP.  ERA= 4.45.

Not sure what was going on here, but Acosta and Castro hit 5 batters between them.

  1. Any idea whether Duggar can play CF at the major league level? I seem to recall he was drafted as a corner OF but is said to have good speed and a strong arm.

    1. I'm going to say Duggar COULD play CF at the MLB level, but probably at no more than average D. I assume there is a reason why Jebavy played CF when they were both in SJ.

  2. The thought crossed my mind that maybe the Giants think highly enough of Beede not to include him in a trade. Heard that Sabean spent a few days in Richmond to scout their players.

    1. Agree completely. I think we've seen way too much focus on who the Giants sent out and not nearly enough on who they kept and why those players made them feel like they could make the trades.

    2. I also have to laugh that Dave Cameron lists all 3 of the trades the Giants made among his 5 best "sells" of the deadline trades meaning those 3 teams got the best return on "selling" veteran players. Of course there was not mention of how this was possible when they were trading with a team with one of the weaker farm systems in baseball. Also no mention that all 3 players the Giants received have extra years of team control on their contracts, so they were pretty good "buys" too!

    3. Lol. Yeah, Dave Cameron is a joke at this point. Basically a self fulfilling prophecy of his own whimsical fancy.
