Down on the Farm: 8/8/2016

AAA  Tacoma Rainiers blanked the Sacramento River Cats 4-0:

Joan Gregorio RHP- 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 5.70.

AA  Trenton Thunder rolled over the Richmond Flying Squirrels 12-6:

CJ Hinojosa SS- 2 for 5.  BA= .273.
Hunter Cole RF- 2 for 4, HR(12), BB.  BA= .271.
Tyler Horan PH-DH-P- 1 for 2, 3B.  BA= .243.
Cory Taylor RHP- 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 1.80.

Taylor has sort of a successful AA debut depending no how you look at it.  Horan pitched 1 inning and it didn't go well as he allowed 5 of the Thunder's 12 runs in the 9'th inning.

High A  San Jose Giants were idle.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets shut down the Hickory Crawdads 5-0:

Johneshwy Fargas CF- 1 for 4, 2B, HBP, SB(27).  BA= .279.
Jean Angomas LF- 2 for 4.  BA= .234.
Seth Harrison RF- 2 for 5, HR(6).  BA= .268.
Michael Connolly RHP- 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 10/1.  ERA= 2.35.

Connolly is the big story here.  Second start in a row allowing 0 runs.  He's allowed just 2 hits in 13 IP in those 2 games.  Starting May 15, Connolly has pitched at least 5 innings in every start and has allowed more than 3 runs just once when he allowed 4 in 8 IP.  He has 10 QS out of 14 in that span.  Have to remember he is 24 yo and this is his 4'th pro season and he's pitching in low A.

Short Season Spokane Indians topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 5-4 in 11 innings:

Manuel Geraldo 3B- 2 for 5, 2 SB(8).  BA= .283.
Gio Brusa LF- 1 for 5, HR(5).  BA= .272.
Ryan Kirby 1B- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .276.
Raffi Vizcaino RHP- 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 4.97.
Nolan Riggs RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's.  ERA= 4.71.
CJ Gettman RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.77.

Geraldo is still one of my favorite prospects.

Rookie AZL  Giants defeated the Dodgers 7-3:

Mikey Edie CF- 2 for 5, SB(9).  BA= .213.
Nick Hill 3B- 2 for 4.  BA= .310.
Beicker Mendoza 1B- 3 for 4.  BA= .287.
DJ Myers RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.68.
Luis Amaya LHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.

Amaya makes his 2016 debut.  Was he injured or are they just taking it slow with him?  He's just 17 yo.

Ismael Munguia LF- 1 for 5, 2 BB.  BA= .281.
Angeddy Almanzar 1B-3B- 2 for 5, HR(5), BB.  BA= .313.
Franklin Labour DH- 3 for 6, 2B.  BA= .247.
Francisco Medina 3B-SS- 3 for 6.  BA= .260.
Jose Patino CF- 2 for 5, Sac.  BA= .301.
Jerson Severino RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.80.
Alejandro De La Rosa RHP- 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.01.
Weilly Yan RHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.40.

  1. Former prospect Joe Biagini is doing a great job for the Blue Jays in relief. 46.1IP, 2.14 ERA. His FB is clocking in just under 95 MPH and it has enough movement that batters are struggling to square it up and he's got a 55% GB rate and hasn't given up a homer yet.

Losing him (and I really liked him), while watching our other prospects get all shakey is just killing me. He was just the kind of rags-to-riches sports story I love... The 807th player picked. Struggled. Struggled. Struggled. Got it. Now he's successful.
