Down on the Farm: 08-25-2010

AAA Sacramento River Cats edged the Fresno Grizzlies 6-5:

Eugenio Velez- 1 for 5, HR6). BA= .312.
Brandon Belt- 1 for 3, HR(1), 2 BB, SB(1). BA= .333.
Jesus Guzman- 1 for 4, HR(17), BB. BA= .305.

It really doesn't seem to matter what league Brandon Belt is in, does it? He just keeps putting up the same fantastic looking lines, night after night! Man, I can't wait to see him in SF. Not sure where they are going to put him on the field or the lineup, but they gotta give this kid a look!

AA Reading Phillies defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-2:

Sharlon Schoop- 3 for 4. BA= .296.

Formerly a shortstop who was once compared to Omar Vizquel, Schoop seems to be playing everywhere BUT shortstop now. He played 1B tonight. Yikes! Last night he played LF with Neal moving over to RF.

High A Visalia Rawhide blanked the San Jose Giants 3-0:

Nothing to see here.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets edged the West Virginia Power 4-3:

Ryan Cavan- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(10). BA= .272.
Luke Anders- 1 for 3, HR(13). BA= .290.
Andy Reichard- 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 10 K's. ERA= 3.50.
Jose Valdez- 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.54.
Jose Casilla- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(12). ERA= 1.25.

A dominant start for Reichard. I still believe in him, but he's going to have to get it done the next chance he gets at a higher level. The Giants have really babied Casilla this year. I'll be interested to see what he does next year.

Short Season Vancouver Canadians beat the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 7-4:

Dan Burkhart- 3 for 5. BA= .350.
Adam Duvall- 2 for 4. BA= .265.
Carter Jurica- 2 for 4. BA= .201.
Jeff Arnold- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .234.
Taylor Rogers- 6 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.27.
Kaohi Downing- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 1.38.

A two hit game from Jurica has to be cause for some kind of special celebration! Burkhart has gotten off to the best start of any draftee except maybe Chuckie Jones.

Rookie AZL Giants were idle.

DSL Giants have a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

  1. Looks like 2 possibilities for Schoop...

    1) They are giving him experience all over the place to either find a new position for him or so he developes as a util...

    2) He is simply org depth now and they are playing him where a prospect is not playing.
