I didn't see this game, but it appears that if not for 1 pitch to Adam LaRoche in the first inning, Tim Lincecum might have had a quality start allowing just 1 run in 6 innings. Alas, it didn't really matter whether it was 1 run or 10, the Giants weren't going to win this game as they were whitewashed by a rookie pitcher whose peripheral stats suggest is not going to have very many of these kinds of games in his career. Key lines:
Tim Lincecum- 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.80. Too many walks and a dinger in the first inning, and that was the ballgame right there. He also K'd the side in the first, but the damage was done. Still, the K's and the fact that he seemed to settle down the rest of the way may be indications Timmy is coming out of his funk. It better be soon, like his next start!
Barry Enright- 7 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.44. With 22 BB's and 39 K's in 66.1 IP, and a GO/AO of 0.85, it would appear that Enright's ERA is destined to make a big move upwards in the near future, but he kept it going long enough to deal the Giants a big setback.
With the loss, the Giants remained 6 games behind the NL West leading San Diego Padres who lost to the Phillies 3-2. The Dodgers won their 4'th game in a row 6-2 over the Rockies to move into a tie with the Rocks 10 games behind the Padres. In winning, the Phillies jumped over the Giants to a 0.5 game lead in the Wild Card race and 1 game ahead of the St Louis Cardianals who topped the Nats 4-2.
Barry Zito will try to bounce back from his last horrible start to keep the Giants hopes for a series win over the D'Backs alive facing another rookie, Daniel Hudson, who has a much more impressive K/9 than Enright.
