Down on the Farm: 08-02-2010

Just want to say how gratified I am that folks stop by and read these posts on a daily basis. Thanks for all the comments. As the minor league season enters it's final month, it's getting harder and harder to think of new angles to comment on. The story lines are just about set for most of the players. I'll keep doing my best, but it there's really nothing to comment on, I might just post the key lines and move on.

AAA Fresno Grizzlies edged the Colorado Springs Skysox 4-3:

Emmanuel Burriss- 2 for 5. BA= .302
Brett Pill- 2 for 3, HR(12), SF. BA= .272.
Ryan Rohlinger- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .313.
Matt Yourkin- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.44.
Brandon Medders- 1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA- 5.60.

Medders looks done. Where does Brett Pill fit into the Giants future, if at all? Yourkin might be the best pitching option left should doomsday strike in SF.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels were idle.

High A San Jose Giants were idle.

Low A Charleston River Dogs doubled up the Augusta Greenjackets 8-4:

Luke Anders- 3 for 4, HR(14). BA= .301.
Tommy Joseph- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .230.
Hector Sanchez- 2 for 4. BA= .279.
Nick Liles- 2 for 4, SB(22. BA= .317.
Craig Clark- 5 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.64

Liles and Anders have quietly had very good seasons. Neither are spring chickens, so they are going to have to get it in gear and move up faster and prove it at each level. Clark's line looks like he may have pitched into some bad luck in this one.

Short Season Spokane Indians whitewashed the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 7-0:

Seth Rosin- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.25.

Rosin hadn't pitched since June 30'th, so good to see his name in the box score again.

Rookie AZL Giants topped the Brewers 4-2:

Carlos Willoughby- 0 for 2, 2 BB, SB(17). BA= .275.
Dan Burkhart- 2 for 3, HR(1), BB. BA= .357.
Rafael Rodriguez- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .250.
Austin Fleet- 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.18.
Stephen Shackleford- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA- 1.89.

Shack has 26 K's in 19 IP, and a GO/AO= 3.00.

DSL Giants downed the Phillies 8-5:

Christian Paulino- 1 for 4, 2B, HBP, 2 SB(18). BA= .247.
Jesus Galindo- 1 for 4, 3 SB(37). BA= .227.
Bertoni Garcia- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 1.96.

Garcia just turned 19 on 7/8, so maybe he is still a prospect. This is his 3'rd season in the DSL though.

  1. One question I'd ask of other prospect watchers: where should we assign Tommy "Light Tower Power" Joseph next season? Has he shown enough to be promoted to San Jose in 2011? If he has the same sort of numbers there next year, should he probably repeat the Cal League in hopes of improvement?

  2. Thank you for posting Dr. B. I have never had much to contribute to the conversations. But I have enjoyed reading what you have to say for ... dang a long time. Your observations were a primary reason I tuned into sfgiants.com, and this is better yet.

Thanks for all the hard work.

  3. Do you think that the Giants took Seth Rosin out and put him in instructional league to sharpen some things out?

And it is due to the great work you do here DrB that keeps us coming, thanks for all the hard work, as celgin said, this has been a great site for civil and cogent Giants discussion.

  5. Thanks again, everybody!

I would definitely move Tommy J up to Fresno next season. Yeah, if he's overmatched, he can repeat the Cal League.

Don't know why Rosin was out for awhile. Maybe the coaches saw something to work on. I just assumed it was some sort of minor injury and they were being extra cautious because college pitchers for College WS contenders can get worked awfully hard.

  6. Fresno? Either I came down with a bad case of the HFs or that was a typo...

Thanks for all the write-ups. Doc. Definitely a quality site...

  7. Sorry, I was pretty tired last night. I did mean moving Tommy J up to San Jose rather than Fresno.
