Down on the Farm: 04-08-2010

The two games back east got suspended due to bad weather, kind of a letdown to the opening of the minor league season. Here are the key lines from last night's games:

AAA: Reno edged Fresno 5-4 in 12 innings.

Buster Posey- 3 for 5. Atta boy, Buster!

Brock Bond- 2 for 5. Picks up where he left off in AA.

Kevin Pucetas- 4 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 3 K's. Not the line we've grow accustomed to seeing from Kevin, but Reno is a tough place to pitch.

Henry Sosa- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.

Steve Edlefsen- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K's.

Joe Paterson- 0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 0 K's.(L, 0-1).

AA: Suspended after 4 innings with Bowie leading Richmond 1-0.

Thomas Neal- 1 for 2, 2B.

Roger Kieschnick- OF assist(Joseph at home).

Michael MacDonald- 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 0 K's, GO/AO= 9/1. MacDonald is a 28 y.o. minor league FA signing who started in the Toronto organization. Pitched for Salt Lake City in the Angels organization last year. Consider him a non-prospect at this point.

High A: Modesto topped San Jose 4-2.

Ehire Adrianza- 2 for 4, 2B.

James Simmons- 1 for 3, SB(1), 2 OF Assists(both at 2B). 5 tool OF? He hasn't really hit so far in his pro career.

Eric Surkamp- 4 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.

Low A: Suspended after 4 innings with Augusta leading Greensboro 2-0.

Ryan Lollis- 1 for 1, 2B, BB.

Christopher Heston- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 6/2. 6'4", 185 lbs. 22 y.o. drafted last year in round 12 out of East Carolina. Best pitching line of the night.

Around the minors:

Carlos Santana, the catching prospect who the Dodgers traded to Cleveland for Casey Blake went 4 for 5 with 2 HR's for AAA Columbus. Fantasy owners better start tracking him because he's going to be up with the Indians real soon.

Scott Kazmir will make a rehab start for HIgh A Rancho Cucamonga tonight.

Stephen Strasburg will make his pro debut on Sunday for AA Harrisburg. The Richmond Flying Squirrels might face him if he isn't called up too soon.

Aroldis Chapman will make his U.S. pro debut Sunday for AAA Louisville.

  1. There's something about minor league ball - sort of the purist part of baseball. Also - they have the BEST names and logos. Go to milb.com and look at the team names, thanks DrB for pointing out the Richmond Flying Squirrels - how can you not like them!!!

  2. Bad start for Pucetas, but good ones for Buster, Ehire, Neal.

    Go Giants!

  3. I've read that the Giants aren't too happy with the name Flying Squirrels. I think it's great, myself. Love all those quirky names with a local flavor, Hickory Crawdads, Jupiter Hammerheads(from a couple of years ago), Modesto Nuts and the old standby, Toledo Mudhens.

  4. Those 12 walks that Fresno gave up must have caused alot of pitching out of trouble...
