Game Wrap: 4-05-2010 Opening Day!

The Giants played it just like it was drawn up, tight pitching and timely hitting. Giants down the 'Stros 5-2 in a game that wasn't that close. Key lines:

Edgar Renteria- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. Nice start for Rent.

Mark DeRosa- 1 for 3, HR(1), BB. DeRosa made a nice barehanded pick and throw of a Carlos Lee drive off the LF wall holding him to a single.

Bengie Molina- 2 for 4.

Juan Uribe- 2 for 3, SF. Uribe looked agile out at 2B too.

John Bowker- 1 for 4. The hit was a drive off the LF wall that bounced right back to the fielder. Bowker made a nice running catch down in the RF corner too.

Aaron Rowand- 0 for 5. First pitch ground out to open the game. I just knew he was going to start the season cold after his hot spring training. He did make a nice running catch in deep left CF though.

Tim Lincecum- 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K's. What can I say? Timmy's already ahead of last year's Cy Young pace. He was regularly hitting 94-95 on the radar gun. He hung a couple of curveballs, otherwise, his secondary stuff was as unhittable as ever. Just a great, encouraging start to the season!

Sergio Romo- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. I like Romo's enthusiasm. He started to run off the field after out #2, much to his embarrassement. He didn't let it bother him though as he got out of the inning with ease.

Brandon Medders- 0.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K's. Medders was just throwing meatballs up there. Gotta get better because there's a whole bunch of hard throwing kids in Fresno banging on the door.

Brian Wilson- 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Totally unhittable!

Around the League:

Vicente Padilla was more like Vicente Padilla than last year as the Dodgers lost their opener to the PIrates 11-5.

D'Backs won

Rockies beat San Diego

Albert Pujols hits 2 dingers. Man, I know Matt Holliday is a good hitter, but I'd dare him to beat me if I was a manager.

Polanco gets 6 RBI's in his Phillies debut and Halladay pitched great.

Shaun Marcum of Toronto took a no hitter into the 7'th inning, but Texas came back to win the game 5-4.

  1. Lincecum pitched a great game and it's going to be a long year for the blue jays...

  2. Are you at all worried about Sandoval. On Schulman's blog he mentions that Sandoval hasn't been hitting well this spring and it's something to keep an eye on.

  3. Was great to see Timmy hitting 95 on the gun!

  4. Not too worried about Pablo. It looks like he's swinging out of his shoes at everything. He just needs to relax and let it come to him. In the games I've watched, he was right on a couple of pitches he fouled straight back. That flyout to CF last night would have been out in a lot of parks.

  5. I wouldn't worry about Pablo either. You don't hit as well as he did last season and then lose it.
