Down on the Farm: 04-21-2010

AAA Fresno Grizzlies edged the Reno Aces 3-2 in a game completed early, presumably due to inclement weather in Fresno:

Brock Bond- 2 for 4. BA= .275.
Eric Hacker- 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 1.10.

Hacker was signed as a minor league FA. He had decent K rates last year in the Yankee organization. He threw 93 pitches in 5 IP, probably because of all the K's. He might be a temporary 5'th starter option if Wellemeyer can't cut it, but Pucetas and Martinez would be ahead of him on the depth chart due to 40 man roster status.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the New Britain Rock Cats 5-4:

Darren Ford- 4 for 5, HR(1). BA= .277.
Roger Kieschnick- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .245.
Andy D'Alessio- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .278.
David Mixon- 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 9/3. ERA= 3.78.
Rafael Cova- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, Save(4). ERA= 0.00.

Good to see Darren's and Roger's bats come alive. Big Andy struggled last year at lower levels.

Low A Savannah Sand Gnats scored 6 runs in the top of the 9'th to trounce the Augusta Greenjackets 9-4:

Luke Anders- 2 for 4, HR(1). BA= .298.
Ryan Lollis- 2 for 4, SB(2). BA= .314.
Jorge Bucardo- 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 13/1. ERA= 2.25.
Jason Jarvis- 1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 0 K's, BS(1). ERA= 4.91.

Very nice line by Bucardo. Defense, or lack of it, obviously played a big role in this game.

HIgh A San Jose rained out in Visalia. We've had more rainouts on the west coast than back east so far!

  1. VERY nice to see Ford actually picking up his bat and using it. Hmmm...

  2. Nice to see the Flying Squirrels start to heat up. I was shocked to check and see that many were not hitting at all or much.

I saw a lot of people tout Bond, but I was't impressed by his numbers. What are your thoughts on him right now DrB?

  3. Bond is a borderline prospect. At best, he's a switch-hitting version of David Eckstein, which isn't at all bad. He reportedly is a weak fielder and has virtually no power, so he might have trouble carrying that OBP to the majors.
