AAA: Sacramento River Cats outscored the El Paso Chihuahuas 10-6:
Tyler Fitzgerald SS- 2 for 4, 2 HR(4), BB. BA= .667.
Casey Schmitt 3B- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(7). BA= .283.
David Villar 1B- 1 for 5, HR(4). BA= .219.
Jakson Reetz C- 3 for 5, 3 2B. BA= .242.
Ismael Munguia LF- 1 for 4, 2B, SB(7). BA= .233.
Fitz and Schmitty are demonstrating a big problem for MLB: The huge chasm between the talent level at AAA and MLB.
AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Bowie Baysox 9-3:
Will Wilson SS- 2 for 5, HR(4). BA= .207.
Grant McCray CF- 2 for 4, 3B, HR(6), BB. BA= .197.
Victor Bericoto 1B- 2 for 2 HR(2), 2 BB. BA= .203.
Hayden Birdsong RHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.29.
Wil Jensen RHP- 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.91.
I am still cautiously optimistic that McCray is going to be a very good MLB player. After an extremely slow first month in AA he's slashing .271/.368/.610 in May.
A+: Eugene Emeralds beat the Spokane Indians 8-3:
Quinn McDaniel CF- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .288.
Diego Velasquez SS- 2 for 3, BB, SB(10). BA= .299.
Rodolfo Nolasco DH- 2 for 4, HR(3). BA= .333.
Justin Wishkoski 3B- 2 for 4, SB(9). BA= .259.
Alexander Suarez LF- 2 for 4, HR(4). BA= .281.
Dylan Cumming RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 1.87.
Nick Morreale RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.74.
Alexander Suarez is red hot. .304/.327/.609 in May. I have long considered him one of the highest ceiling prospects in the organization. Is this his long-awaited breakout?
A: Lake Elsinore Storm outlasted the San Jose Giants 6-5(10 innings):
Really nothing of significance in this box score.
Yeah, it certainly seems they don't throw anything that breaks a foot outside! Haha! Parks probably playing a big role? Do you know of similar issues in the IL?

McCray did the same exact thing the last two seasons (I think!)..starting off abysmaal in a new level then having a really good year..Better than the opposite! Still a very intriguing mix of power, speed and a good eye..Don't give up on this kid.....And don't sleep on BIRDSONG, has been lights out for RICH all year...Cummings they picked off the Indy scrap heap but perhaps they helped him figure it out??

Do many of the players who eventually have good careers not need an adjustment period?
ReplyDeleteEven Buster, when he came up in 2009 @ 22 yo, did not fare well. In 2010, he came back in late May, had some good games then after his game 14 until the end of June he slumped badly, in 46 PAs he slashed .136/.152/.136 with no xtra base hits. Of course he went on to win ROY, although he didn't finish particularly strong, dropping .025 the last month. H e did have a good WS to give Sf their first WS win in what seemed like a hundred years.
Schmitt may need to play a year or two in Japan if the chasm is that big
