Once again, the Giants SP got blown out early in Cincinnati. There was not comeback in store today, but the Giants did put themselves in the record books with a couple of oddball stats. Key Lines:
Brandon Belt 1B- 1 for 1, 2B, 3 BB. BA= .221. A classic Belt line. He scored 2 of the Giants 4 runs.
Pablo Sandoval 3B/RHP- 1 for 4, HR(3), SB(1). BA= .250. 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 0.00. Here's an odd one for you: Pablo is the first player since 1905 to homer, steal a base and pitch a scoreless inning. The guy who did it in 1905? That would be the great Christy Mathewson per sfgiants.com and Elias Sports Bureau.
Drew Pomeranz LHP- 1.2 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 5.93. Giants SP's gave up a collective 26 ER in 14 IP. Given that, it is close to a miracle the Giants leave town with a 2-2 series split.
Pat Venditte RHP/LHP- 1.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 3 HBP. ERA= 16.20. Here's another one: Pat Venditte and Sam Dyson combined to tie an MLB record with 4 HBP's in 1 inning. Pablo Sandoval later hit a batter in the 9'th which tied a franchise record for most HBP's in 1 game at 5.

2 games now with the team just ahead in the standings -- chance to move into 4th place.
ReplyDeleteDear Z:
Skip the River Cats box score for yesterday, you might just think Mac could have done that in Cincinnati. Green didn't play, but between them, they have 5 HR's in their last 6 ABs.
Your outfield in friendly Great Amer BP were a combine 1-12 yesterday.
Keep up the good work.

Questions on Baseball-Reference WAR related stats:
ReplyDelete1. How long will it take Parra to fall out of the TOP 12 gallery?
2. At what % of the season will the first Giant reach 1.0 WAR? It will be more than one-fourth.
3. What's with Pillar's -0.1 dWAR, up from a -0.3? Or Belt's -0.4?
Given that the Giants didn't really try very hard in the off-season and that they're 9-2 in 1-run games, aren't they kinda lucky to be where they are?
Hopefully OF and hitting are fixed - next problem is consistent starting pitching - they only need to pitch 5 scoreless and turn it over to the bullpen! Not spot every team 5 runs in the first inning...
