Down on the Farm: 4/30/2019

AAA  Sacramento River Cats blasted the Albuquerque Isotopes 17-7:

Mike Gerber CF- 2 for 5, HR(5), BB.  BA= .324.
Austin Slater 1B- 1 for 5, BB, SB(4).  BA= .279.
Mac Williamson RF- 2 for 3, 2 HR(6), 2 BB, SB(1).  BA= .379.
Steven Vogt LF- 2 for 5, HR(4).  BA= .241.
Aramis Garcia C- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .222.
Abiatal Avelino 3B- 2 for 5, 3B.  BA= .235.
Breyvic Valera 2B- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(2).  BA= .266.
Olbis Parra RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

OK, it's Albuquerque.  The wind is blowing out to LF at 13 MPH.  I get it.  This was a game to pad the ol' stat line.  On the other hand, it is hard to overstate the absurdity of Mac Williamson and Mike Gerber playing here while Yangervis Solarte starts the last 2 games in LF for the Giants with Tyler Austin sitting on the bench in SF.  At least late word has Steven Vogt getting called up, but it needs to be Steven Vogt plus Mac or Gerber as there is no reason at all to not DFA both Ty Blach and Austin off the 40 man roster.  I assume Vogt is being called up to play LF and Eric Kratz will remain on the 25 man roster.  Olbis Parra must have been Blach's replacement on the Cats roster.   Nice AAA debut for him.

AA  Bowie Baysox downed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-4:

Chris Shaw DH- 1 for 5, HR(3).  BA= .262.
Ryan Howard SS- 3 for 4, BB.  BA= .217.
Jonah Arenado 3B- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .348.
Jalen Miller 2B- 1 for 5, SB(6).  BA= .270.

A+  Inland Empire edged out the San Jose Giants 3-2:

Cooper Casad RHP- 2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Ronnie Freeman's 2-run dinger was the only hit of the game for the Giants.  Whew!  Glad I didn't go out to the game on a cold night in the IE!

A  Augusta Greenjackets defeated the Lexington Legends 5-1:

Ismael Munguia DH- 2 for 4.  BA= .354.
Jose Layer CF- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .197.
Shane Matheny SS- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .263.
Jacob Gonalez 3B- 2 for 3, 2B, 3B, BB.  BA= .246.
Jake Wong RHP- 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 6/2.  ERA= 2.78.
Preston White RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.27.

6 no-hit innings for Jake Wong for his second QS in a row.  Take out his first start when he allowed 3 runs in 1.2 IP, his ERA is 1.71 in 21 IP.

  1. Any word on the big international signing playing(drawing blank on name)?

Also, why can't we option Duggar? Probably not a popular option but he's playing RF anyways, let him get some time in the minors

    1. Interesting -- since Pillar, Parra, and Solarte are appartently going to play, might as well punish Duggar and let him get some swings in AAA. Gerber bats left and no power, Mac's the opposite.
      Bye, Ty!

    2. Gerber ... no power, isn't quite true. Mia culpa

  2. No reason why: 1. Williamson is not here, after this game. And/or 2. Gerber is not here. Blach can leave, to open one spot for either of them. Preferably Mac.

    1. Blach performance reminded me of Derek Law getting shelled a couple of years ago. He was dispatched to AAA shortly thereafter. I can still see the look on Law's face after he retired to the bench after being removed from the game. The look, despair mixed resignation said, I think I get demoted after this...

  5. What happens to Logan Webb's spot on the 40-man roster?
He denies the charges -- a lot of good that will do him!

    1. I read his tweet - pretty sincere. Same thing happened in tennis, G. Coria was a top 10 player and accused of doping - he was suspended for almost a year - lost $1 M. in prize money - he sued and I think received settlement from maker of supplements who added drugs to its 'pure" non-pharma formula so I giver Logan the benefit of the doubt here, let['s see what happens

  6. Dear Farhan Zaidi -

Presently your organization is 29th out of 30 teams in baseball in hitting average, 28th in SLG, and DEAD LAST in OPS. You've hit fewer HRs than any organization not named the Marlins, Tigers or Pirates - and total about 1/3 of the HRs of the top team in the league.

With all that, even having a starting rotation with the 8th best ERA, and a very solid stable of relief pitchers, your Giants are the 5th worst team in baseball.

To echo Doc - WHO CARES ABOUT SOLARTE/PARRA? Absolutely nobody, and their max contributions would pale in comparison to what Mac's potential could be, both offensively and defensively.

Drop the charade and bring Mac up to the Bigs. When a guy is hot, let him keep that momentum as he makes the leap. Don't give me the "can't figure out who to drop" BS. When you're one of the worst teams in the league 3 seasons running, there isn't an issue with dropping dead weight.
