A day after playing one of their weakest games in recent memory, the Giants came out acting like they wanted to win and did. Key Lines:
Joe Panik 2B- 1 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .252. Joe Panik is turning his season around, batting .345 over his last 15 games with a .448 OBP. His OBP on the season is a respectable .342 and he has almost as many walks(17) as K's(18).
Steven Duggar CF- 2 for 5, 3B. BA= .256. Every time we think Duggar is folding up for the season, he comes up with a game like this. His triple down the 1B line and into the RF corner was the linchpin of the Giants 3-run rally in the third inning.
Buster Posey C- 2 for 5. BA= .261. Buster's bat was heating up before going on the DL and it's staying hot. .304 over his last 7 games and .321 over his last 15.
Brandon Belt 1B- 2 for 5, HR(7). BA= .237. Belt is hitting .294 over his last 7 games and leads the team in HR's. Sandoval, Longo and Pillar have 6 each.
Brandon Crawford SS- 1 for 3, 3B, BB. BA= .205. Crawford has been struggling at the plate. Hopefully this is the start of a turnaround?
Mac Williamson LF- 1 for 4. BA= .176. Baby steps for Mac. This hit came with an RBI.
Pablo Sandoval PH- 1 for 1, HR(6). BA= .293. Pabs is hitting .400 over his last 7 games with a .950 SLG%.
Madison Bumgarner LHP- 6.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.21. I'm mad at Bochy. I have Bummy on my fantasy team in a league that counts QS rather than W's. He had a QS nicely tucked away after 6 innings then gave up 2 runs while recording just 1 out in the 7'th.

The Giants gained a game in the standings and now trail the Dodgers by 9.5 and are 5 games behind in the Wild Card race.

TBD is the listed Giants starting pitcher today facing Robbie Ray. Word is that TBD is a cover for Drew Pomeranz. We'll see if the Giants use an Opener.

Unexpected mid-May stat of the day:
ReplyDeletePablo Sandoval leads the Giants in WAR (bWAR) by a wide margin:
1. Pablo 1.0
2. Longoria 0.6
Aaron Altheir was DFA so Pomeranz could get reinstated. No matter what happens, I won't say Mac wasn't given a shot. C'mon Mac, lets get on a hitting streak!
ReplyDeleteHe is 34ABs into the year. I was thinking of 100ABs to make a decision. He should turn it around soon.
DeleteGiven how Zaidi operates, Giants will take risks and easily move on to the next option, if Mac does not show that he can be a sold LF.
