Buster Posey drove in Steven Duggar with the walk-off winning run to get a win out of a strong pitching performance by Madison Bumgarner and the bullpen. Key Lines:
Steven Duggar RF- 3 for 4. BA= .241. Duggar played the leadoff role just right scoring both the Giants runs. The first came in the first inning when he singled to open the game, went to 3'rd on Tyler Austin's double and scored on a Brandon Belt Sac Fly that traveled to the outer reaches of Triples Alley. The second run was the walkoff winner in the 9'th.
Madison Bumgarner LHP- 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 3.92. Bummy had to pitch out of a couple of jams that ran up his pitch count but that's a classic Bumgarner line.
Bullpen- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. Reyes Moronta allowed a hit but struck out the side in the 7'th. Will Smith got the W instead of the Save as the beneficiary of the walkoff run.

The Win left the Giants still in last place, 6 games behind the NL West leading Dodgers. The Giants are just 4.5 games off the Wild Card pace. California Dreaming!

Great win for the Giants. Big boost for Buster, but it was Duggar's speed that was the difference. That was a one-hop liner to the left fielder, who then made a pretty good throw. Duggar scores on a play that wasn't that close.
ReplyDeleteFrom now until the Dodgers are back in town on June 7th, the Giants have a relatively soft schedule. 31 games and the best team record-wise is AZ.
ReplyDeleteThis is the test -- it won't get easier after a 9-game eastern roadtrip to Miami, Toronto, and the Mets before things get tough through the All Star break and beyond.
If the Giants aren't above .500 -- and not just a little bit above -- in early June, it's ti,e to call Coldwell Banker
I love your comment “where the Tyler Beede era begins on Friday evening”. I’m really pulling for him. Cincinnati is a tough place to pitch so it’ll definitely be a test for him. I would love to see him pitch well while he’s with the big club and eventually force his way into the Giants starting rotation.
ReplyDeleteWinning 2 of 3 while being outscored 13-8 may mark the high point of the season (at least since starting 0-0)!
ReplyDeleteThe next 34 days will provide the answer to 2019's question: do they have the remotest chance to contend?
Mark the calendars: June 7 -- the date of reckoning.
