Shaun Anderson overcame some shaky defensive support to pitch 5 solid innings in his MLB debut to lead the Giants to a win in the final game of a short homestand. Key Lines:
Brandon Crawford SS- 1 for 4, HR(2). BA= .208. I wish I could day Crawford's bat is coming to life, but his BA is .192 over his last 7 games, .212 over his last 15 and .176 over his last 30. Brutal!
Aramis Garcia C- 1 for 3, HR(1). BA= .167. Garcia now has 5 HR's in 72 career PA's. That's 42/600.
Shaun Anderson RHP- 2 for 2, 2B. BA= 1.000. Apparently the kid can hit too. He was channelling Zack Greinke more than Madison Bumgarner with two squared up balls that were hit hard. Looking up his minor league batting stats, he hit just .129 in 2018, but 2 of his 4 hits were doubles.
Shaun Anderson RHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 7/2. ERA= 3.60. Both hits and 1 BB came in the first inning when he may have still had some first-start jitters. He had to pitch through 2 errors. Regarding the GO/AO, he was credited with GO's on both errors and 2 lineouts to the OF were not counted as AO's, but 10 of his 15 recorded outs were either K's or GO's.
On video, he had a tight downward breaking slider to complement a 92-94 MPH FB. And oh, he looks like an absolute horse on the mound. He has enough of a resemblance to Noah Syndergaard, we might start calling him Thor Jr! I'd say he earned himself another MLB Start.
Bullpen- 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. Mark Melancon, Sam Dyson, Tony Watson and Will Smith pitched 1 shutout inning each. Smith earned his 11'th Save by striking out the side. Dyson, Watson and Smith should all have significant trade value if the Giants sell at the Trade Deadline.

With the Win, the Giants are 9 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West pending the outcome of the Dodgers vs Padres. They are 5 games off the Wild Card pace.

The Giants have a travel day heading to Arizona for a weekend series against the D'Backs with Jeff Samardzija facing Merrill Kelly Friday evening.

Garcia should be catching every day and hopefully we can move Posey this season if not in the Off Season. I doubt Posey will be part of the New Giants.
ReplyDeleteI miss hearing that Garcia has toonder in his bat.
ReplyDeleteAramis would just keep the Position warm but should be a solid #2 after Bart arrives, there really is no reason to keep Posey around when he could help another Team Win......something he can't do in SF plus we might harvest a few Prospects.
ReplyDeletePavs wrote an interesting article on NBCsports.com about where the Giants are at after 40 games. He said the team has 2 goals for 2019: 1-compete. 2-find players who are keepers. I'm not sure if those 2 goals can go hand in hand and be achievable. After reading this, Zaidis moves do make sense although some clearly haven't worked. I've heard baseball commentators say it's hard to compete and rebuild at the same time. Pavs speculates that it may be time to trade some veterans to find younger players who can be keepers to accelerate goal #2. If the team doesn't turn around soon, yes it probably needs to happen sooner rather then later
