Game Wrap 5/5/2019: Giants 6 Reds 5

Jeff Samardzija set some kind of record by allowing 3 HR's on 3 pitches in the first inning, but hey!  All's well that ends well.  The Giants fought back for a come-from-behind win for the second time in 3 games.  Key Lines:

Joe Panik 2B- 1 for 3, BB.  BA= .206.  Joe is hitting .259 over his last 7 games which is at least an improvement over what he was doing before.

Buster Posey C- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(2).  BA= .257.   The Giants waited until the the 6'th inning to get their first hit off Luis Castillo, but when they did, they answered the Reds 4-run first inning with a 4-spot of their own, capped off by Buster's Blast which made is a brand new ballgame. Buster's bat has come alive as he is hitting .333 over his last 7 games and .327 over his last 15.

Brandon Crawford PH/SS- 1 for 1, HR(1).  BA= .211.  OK, lets give it up for The Core!  Crawford's Crush off the bench in the 9'th inning plated the go ahead run plus one.  That turned out to be key as Will Smith gave up a run while recording the Save in the bottom of the inning. And yeah, Crawford got all of that one.  Great to see.

Jeff Samardzija RHP- 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  The negative record notwithstanding, this is a pretty good line in the context of the ballpark.  Just gonna say, before the Giants put those bullpens in Triples Alley, they might want to review these games in Cincy and ask themselves if that's the kind of baseball they want to bring to the Bay.

Bullpen- 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 5 K's.  Trevor Gott pitched a scoreless frame.  Reyes Moronta issued 2 walks but struck out the side.  Smith recorded his 9'th Save despite giving up the run.

The Padres got a walkoff Grand Slam against Kenley Jansen and the Dodgers so the Win puts the Giants 6 games behind the NL West leading Dodgers and 5 games off the Wild Card pace.

Drew Pomeranz tries to win the 4-game series tomorrow facing a very hot pitcher in Anthony DeSclafini.
