Down on the Farm: DrB's 2011 Giants Top 50 Prospects- Honorable Mention Part V

Ryan Scoma, OF. BD: 9/12/1987. 6'2", 180 lbs. B-L, T-R. Short Season(Salem-Keizer): .310/.377/.402. 36'th round draft pick out of UC Davis in 2009. Nice BA and OBP, but little power or speed. Probably an organizational guy.

Devin Harris, OF. BD: 4/23/1987. 6'3", 225 lbs. B-R, T-R. Rookie AZL: .275/.351/.392. Short Season(Salem-Keizer): .273/.298/.414. College(East Carolina): .314/398/.589, 13 HR. Harris is a guy I had picked out as a sleeper prior to the 2010 draft and the Giants took him in round 48. Might be too big for an OF. I like hit tool and power potential. OF is a very crowded position for the Giants, so not sure where he's going to find playing time.

Edward Concepcion, RHP. BD: 10/3/1988. 6'3", 190 lbs. B-R, T-R. Short Season(Salem-Keizer): 3-7, 6.39, 63.1 IP, 46 BB, 57 K's. A disappointing season after reading about what great stuff he had in Arizona in 2009. Lost some luster, but never want to write off a kid with tools.

Shawn Sanford, RHP. BD: 8/28/1988. 6'0", 200 lbs. B-R, T-R. Short Season(Salem-Keizer): 4-3, 2.14, 42 IP, 14 BB, 40 K's, GO/AO= 2.23. Numbers look promising. Will have to do it at higher levels.

Stephen Shackleford, RHP. BD: 5/5/1989. 6'1", 185 lbs. B-R, T-R. 2 Levels(Rookie/SS): 2-2, 1.60, 33.2 IP, 14 BB, 41 K's, GO/AO= 1.67. Drafted out of a small school. Promising first pro season numbers.

  1. I agree with this Scoma write up - That looks like his college weight though. Scoma weighed in at 205 lbs little body fat this year. I watched him and Davis and at Salem Kaiser, kid can flat out hit, and you cant teach that. I would rank him in the top 10 for hitting in the Giants farm system. Keep a closer eye on this kid. He only hit 3 or so bombs last year in SK but they were massive! In my opinion the power is there just needs to learn how to lift the ball!
