1-0 games are great to win, terrible to lose. Good thing this wasn't a regular season game. Key lines:
Nate Schierholtz- 1 for 2, 2B, BB.
Mike Fontenot- 1 for 2, BB. Fontenot and Nate were the only Giants to reach base twice in the game.
Ryan Vogelsong- 3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 1.04. Another solid outing by the one time Giants prospect. Quite a fight developing over the long reliever/6'th starter role.
Dan Runzler- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA- 1.69. I'm on board with sending Runzler to Fresno as a starter.
Guillermo Mota- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA- 3.60. Mota isn't going to make this decision any easier for the Giants.
Yet more evidence of a Giants organizational ability to suppress HR's in fangraphs.com where the focus is on Rags and the pitchers who have worked under him as Giants Pitching Coach. While I agree Rags is part of the equation, it goes beyond that to the type of pitchers Sabes and Tidrow look for in the draft and how they develop them.
Matt Cain had another good throwing session. His next assignment will be a simulated game.
Barry Zito makes his 3'rd start of the spring against the ChiSox tomorrow with Jeff Suppan slated to get some work in too. Gamer is expected to return to the lineup against his old team.
