Historically, the Giants have not fared well in the Bay Bridge Series against their regional rivals. After a shaky ending to the Cactus League, the Giants appeared to be in near mid-season form tonight producing a very Giants-like final score. This performance would tend to lend credence to the notion that the Giants lackluster play the last week in Arizona was more due to "desert fatigue" than anything else. Key lines:
Aubrey Huff- 2 for 3, HR(6), BB. BA= .365. If Huff Daddy is going to have a major regression, he certainly has given no indication of it in spring training leading the Giants in most offensive categories. Huffster played RF tonight to allow the Giants to get yet another look at Brandon Belt at 1B.
Buster Posey- 2 for 3. BA= .422. Buster is showing no signs of a sophomore slump in Spring Training.
Pat Burrell- 1 for 2, 2B, BB. BA= .245. Pat the Bat played Run Producer again.
Brandon Belt- 0 for 3. Belt may not have helped his cause of making the Opening Day roster with tonight's performance. On the other hand, he was facing a pretty tough LHP in Brett Anderson.
Matt Cain- 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. Considering where Cain has been with the sore elbow and all, this was a pretty encouraging start. Especially like the K's.
Steve Edlefsen- 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.96. I would say there is a high probability we see Edlefsen in SF before the year is over.
Santiago Casilla- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. After a couple of rough outings in the desert, Casilla pitched much better tonight. Pitches have more bite in SF than the do in the desert air.
Jeremy Affeldt- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.79. Affledt has had a good spring.
Sergio Romo- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's. ERA- 1.04, Save. Romo has also had a good spring. He will likely get the most Save Opportunities while Wilson is out.
The Bay Bridge Series moves to Oakland tomorrow night as Barry Zito opposes Gio Gonzalez.
