The Giants broke out early in Game 1 of their split-squad day against the BrewCrew and coasted to a 7-2 win running their spring record to 6-2. Key lines:
Aaron Rowand- 1 for 4, 2B. Gamer is hitting .125 on the spring so far.
Aubrey Huff- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .250. Huff Daddy is rounding into form.
Mark DeRosa- 1 for 2, 2B, BB. BA= .538. DeRosa acts like he wants to make up for last year.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 4, HR(1). You mean this is his first spring HR? Kid took another sledgehammer swing at that door the Giants are making him break down.
Chris Stewart- 0 for 1, 2 BB. Stew had a .337 OBP against a .248 BA in AAA last year, so he knows how to take a walk.
Jeff Suppan- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, GO/AO= 5/2. I wouldn't want to see Supp pitch in Coors or The BOB, but the Giants play 102 of their games in AT&T, Petco, Dodger Stadium and Oakland. You limit Suppan's HR's Allowed and he could be a pretty good pitcher. I like Bacci's suggestion of dangling him in trade talks too.
Dan Runzler- 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. Like the K's and BB's here.
Barry Zito tries to quiet his critics tonight against the Dodgers in the 2'nd half of a split-squad DH.
I will not have access to the blog for the next 24-36 hours. Will catch up on Sat nite or Sunday.

Quickie question? If Suppan doesn't make the big team, can he become a free agent. It was a minor league contract. Just asking...
ReplyDeleteyes
ReplyDeletea person who signs a minor league contract does not have to accept assignment....if suppan keeps this up, he will not be a giant come april
btw...according to baggs, the leaked story about zito scared the dickens out of the guy, which is why he threw better tonite than last outing
the dodgers helped him out...hitting into a bases loaded, no out dp in the second....where zito hit the first batter, gave up a single and then a walk
bums were also very agressive in the third
it was a better outing...but he better focus the rest of the spring and not take for granted anything
all in all, a good day for the boys
i know spring stats dont mean squat, but from what im reading in both the chron and from baggs, guys are seeing the ball well and hitting it hard to all fields....
and posey hit another dinger
Opshuns,
ReplyDeleteOrdinarily, I believe Supp would have to accept the minor league assignment, but his contract has a specific out clause that allows him to refuse it and become a FA. At least that's my understanding of it.
