Scouting the Draft: Giants 2018 Draft Picks Rounds 31-40

OK, with the short season teams swinging into action tonight, let's get the draft reviews wrapped up.

Round 31, Pick #916.  Ryan Walker, RHP, College(Washington St).  6' 2", 200 lbs.  2018:  4-4, 5.24, 46.1 IP, 25 BB, 47 K, 5 Saves.  Again, no scouting report.  Closer for a Pac 12 program.

*********************************************************************************

Round 32, Pick #946.  Braden Frankfort, C, College(Fresno Pacific).  B-L, T-R.  6'0", 205 lbs.  2018: .347/.410/.528, 10 2B, 2 3B, 6 HR, 15 BB, 31 K, 176 AB.  Never heard of Fresno Pacific before, but that's a nice stat line, especially for a catcher.

*********************************************************************************

Round 33, Pick #976.  Austin Edgette, OF, College(Bloomsbury U(PA)).  B-L, T-L.  6'2", 185 lbs.  2018:  .449/.539/.703, 15 2B, 2 3B, 7 HR, 24 SB, 28 BB, 30 K, 158 AB.  Small college Sr.  Played CF.  Touching story of how he helped a kid with autism.

*********************************************************************************

Round 34, Pick #1006.  Lucas Krull, LHP, JC(MO).  6'3", 165 lbs.  2018:  2-1, 10.26, 16.2 IP, 38 BB, 27 K.  This is an almost comical pick.  The size numbers are what's listed on the Draft Tracker.  Krull is actually built like his name sounds:  6'7", 255 lbs.  He also plays TE and has a commitment to play football for Univ. of Florida.  Hint:  He's not signing with the Giants!

*********************************************************************************

Round 35, Pick #1036.  Chris Roberts, RHP, JC(TX).  6'0", 210 lbs.  I could not find a stat line but Kevin Cunningham of McCovey Chronicles dug up an 8.86 ERA, 19.2 IP, 22 K.  He reportedly has a 92-94 MPH FB and an 82 MPH slider.  Played for the fabled San Jacinto(TX) JC program for 3 seasons.  I could not find him listed on their roster.

*********************************************************************************

Round 36, Pick #1066.  Bryan Hoeing, RHP, College(Louisville).  6'5", 200 lbs.  2018:  7-2, 2.88, 68.2 IP, 25 BB, 51 K.  Listed as 6'6", 228 lbs in his college bio.  Found a scouting report that has him 88-95 on the FB with a fairly advanced breaking ball and changeup.  TJ survivor.  Mom played college basketball for Ball State.  Cousin is Alex Meyer, the big RHP out of Kentucky who is currently in the Twins organization.  Size may give him some upside. The Giants like to draft tall, big pitchers!

*********************************************************************************

Round 37, Pick #1096.  Ryan McDonald, RHP, JC(NV).  6'7", 220 lbs.  2018:  5-1, 1.62, 39 IP, 21 BB, 45 K's.  Another big, tall RHP with control issues but big upside.

*********************************************************************************

Round 38, Pick #1126.  Brett Hansen, LHP, HS.  6'3", 190 lbs.  #94 ranked draft prospect by MLB.  Committed to Vanderbilt.  In other words, he's not signing.

*********************************************************************************

Round 39, Pick #1156.  Trevor Horn, RHP, College(UNLV).  6'1", 200 lbs.  2018:  5-5, 5.96, 77 IP, 25 BB, 43 K.  Pretty generic college bio and pitching line.

*********************************************************************************

Round 40, Pick #1186.  Abdiel Layer, SS, JC(FL).  B-S, T-R, 6'2", 170 lbs.  2018:  .265/.335/.434, 9 2B, 8 HR, 20 BB, 45 K, 196 AB.  Tall, thin, athletic SS who came out of PR HS ranks.  Looks like he may have some upside.
