The Giants had 3 separate leads in this game, but in the end let another on get away. Key Lines:
Buster Posey 1B- 3 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(3). BA= .301. Buster was in a bit of a mini-slump hitting just .246 in his previous 15 games.
Andrew McCutchen RF- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(7). BA= .262. Cutch is hitting .357 over his last 7 games and .339 over his last 15.
Andrew Suarez LHP- 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.92. Suarez was lifted for a PH(Hunter Pence) with 2 outs and 2 runners on base in the top of the 6'th inning. At that point, the Giants had a 3-2 lead which did not grow when Pence grounded into a force play. The rest of the game was a see-saw between the bullpens which the Giants ultimately lost.

Despite the Loss, the Giants remain 4.5 games behind the NL West leading D'Backs who lost to the Pirates 5-4, but drop into 4'th place behind the Rockies who topped the Phillies 7-2 and are 4 games behind. The Dodgers are still playing against the Rangers and sit 2.5 games out pending the outcome of their game. The Pesky Padres beat the Cardinals 4-2 to remain just 5.5 games out in last place.

No freebies in MLB, you gotta play well. The Marlins have won 2 series against the Dodgers too. I have Dietrich and their closer on my fantasy team, they have good players too. It's hard to win consistently when you have young starting pitchers go 5 innings and Bochy has to bring in 4-5 relievers to close games. Can't expect all of those relievers to put up zeros every night. Hopefully they salvage a game with the rookie Rodriguez starting tomorrow.

7 leads. That's how many leads the Giants had in those three losses to the Marlins. Three in game 1. One in game 2. Three, as you pointed out, last night.
ReplyDeleteAll winnable games, 0-3.
ReplyDeleteBaseball is cruel.
If this had been against, say, the Cubs or Brewers or AZ, we would say a game is basically a 50-50 proposition and the Gods were looking the other way. Against Miami, we gotta think that the Gods have left the building.
