Down on the Farm: 6/13/2018

AAA  Sacramento River Cats defeated the Round Rock Express 7-5:

Steven Duggar CF- 3 for 5, 2B, SB(10).  BA= .290.
Gregor Blanco LF- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .357.
Ronnie Freeman C- 1 for 4, HR(2).  BA= .254.
Ray Black RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.97.
Derek Law RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(5).  ERA= 5.63.

Steven Duggar's BA reached a nadir of .240 on May 13. Since then, he's gone 38 for 109= .349.  So, this is a 1 month hot streak now.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels blanked the Portland Seadogs 3-0:

Miguel Gomez 2B- 2 for 4, HR(3).  BA= .283.
Jerry Sands 1B- 1 for 3, HR(10), BB.  BA= .235.
Chase Johnson RHP- 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.74.
Mike Connolly RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.99.
Will LaMarche RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.86.
Dillon McNamara RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(4).   ERA= 2.08.

With Andrew Suarez essentially graduated and Tyler Beede having a terrible season, who is the Giants top pitching prospect right now?  Chase Johnson and Logan Webb are in the conversation and probably we should add Sean Hjelle as soon as we know he's signed.  Giants really need to get some pitching prospects out of this draft class.

A+  Stockton Ports dominated the San Jose Giants 6-0:

Heath Quinn DH- 2 for 4.  BA= .333.
Jacob Heyward LF- 3 for 4.  BA= .251.
Melvin Adon RHP- 2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.72.

Adon threw 62 pitches in 2.2 IP.

Low A  West Virginia Power edged out the Augusta Greenjackets 3-2:

Heliot Ramos CF- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .228.
Jacob Gonzalez 3B- 1 for 3, HR(5) HBP.  BA= .251.
Ryan Kirby 1B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .229.
John Gavin LHP- 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.94.
Camilo Doval RHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.63.
Calvin Mitchell OF(Power)- 1 for 2, 2B, HBP, SF.  BA= .326.

I have a rooting interest in Calvin Mitchell, the Pirates 2'nd round draft pick from last year.  Turns out he's my cousin's wife's nephew, or something like that.  Close enough for a family rooting interest.  My cousin lives in Augusta and they went out to the game to support Calvin last night.  He's been tearing up the SAL and had a nice game for them.  I liked his bat coming into last year's draft.   I've read comps to former Angels OF Garrett Anderson.

DSL  Pirates2 outscored the Giants 10-9:

Jean Pena SS- 0 for 1, 4 BB.  BA= .333.
Luigi Pichardo LF- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .148.
Omar Medina C- 0 for 1, 4 BB.  BA= .385.

Giants drew 13 BB's in the game and had 5 hits.

  2. I guess Shaun Anderson is probably the top pitching prospect for the Giants right now. Garrett Williams has pitch really good lately to be considered too. Joey Bart looks like a great pick as of now, but I really was hoping for a potential top of the rotation pitcher to be picked instead. Lots of potential in the Augusta, but many Giants minor league pitchers fared well in lower levels and the hit a wall as they got promoted. Like Sam Coonrod.

  3. Duggar's bat says bring him up......but 10 errors in the field! Sort of a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. On another note, I love Bruce Bochy and have always been vocal of the people that criticize him given his track record. But the man needs to start Williamson 5-6 days a week for an extended stretch and see what he can do. Splitting time with Pence is not doing him or the team any favors. The man's power stretches the line up. But on the other hand he needs to stay healthy...something he has had a problem doing up to this point in his career.
