Game Wrap 5/27/2016: Rockies 5 Giants 2

A 40 minute rain delay to start the game and Matt Cain's exit in the second inning with a hammy strain seemed to take the starch out of the Giants as the offense never really got going against Tyler Chatwood.  Key Lines:

Matt Cain- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 5.20.  Cain had pitched well in his last two starts and was off to a promising beginning to this one, when he threw a pitch, shook his head and called for the trainer.  Later reports from the Giants clubhouse called is a hammy strain.  I guess we'll find out more today about how long he might be out.

Albert Suarez- 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 7/2.  ERA= 2.25.  All 5 of the hits Suarez allowed were doubles.  Beyond that, he pitched a very decent 5 innings.  Good enough that I would favor him getting Cain's next start, assuming Cain won't be available.

The Dawning of the Age of Urias did no go quite as planned for the Dodgers and the wunderkind lasted just 2.2 IP and the Dodgers lost to the Mets, 6-5 so the Giants remain 4.5 games ahead in the NL West despite the Loss.  The Rockies gained a game on the Giants to and Dodgers and sit 5.5 games back in 3'rd place.  The Padres beat the D'Backs 10-3 so the Snakes and Padres are 4'th and 5'th place, 9 and 9.5 games behind respectively.

Madison Bumgarner tries to get the Giants back in on the winning side of the ledger today facing Eddie Butler.

    1. Baggs's reasoning is that if Stratton were going to replace Cain as a starter, the Giants would have waited till they actually needed him, next Wednesday. Therefore he'll be up to replace Suarez as long man, and Suarez will replace Cain to start against Atlanta. Like DrB, I am happy with this arrangement. Suarez got in trouble last night only after a batted ball hit him on the leg and, literally adding insult to injury, scooted off for a double; this, right after Cain's leg injury. I can't say that sequence would have left my psyche or, maybe, my pitching motion perfectly in order if I were Suarez. When he recovered, he did very nicely.

  2. Just read Shelby Miller and Ruby Dela Rosa were put on DL for the Dbacks. Tough news for a team trying to turn their season around.

    1. That team is the biggest bust since....well, I suppose since the Padres last year. GMs with no patience, who pay "whatever the price" are not long for this game....

Sad... and hilarious, in a terribly shameful kind of way...

  3. CSN says Stratton. For long relief. Does that sound like Suarez will be slotted in for Matt or Jake?
Keep Heston and Blackburn in the rotation at Sac for the inevitable?
