AAA  Oklahoma City Dodgers defeated the Sacramento River Cats 4-1:

Joan Gregorio RHP- 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 4.20.
Duke Welker RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 3.71.
Mike Broadway RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.18.

Dominant peripherals from Gregorio.  In 3 AAA starts, he has 20 K's against 5 BB's in 15 IP.  He has 8 K's in 5 IP in each of his last two starts.


AA  Erie Seawolves downed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-2:

Christian Arroyo SS- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA=  .287.
Ali Castillo 2B- 3 for 3, 2B.  BA= .327
Kyle Crick RHP- 5.2 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.32.

The 0 BB's is the key number to look at in Crick's line.  Baby steps!


High A  San Jose Giants topped the Modesto Nuts 5-2:

CJ Hinojosa SS- 1 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .348.
Jonah Arenado 1B-  2 for 4.  BA= .251.
Martin Agosta RHP- 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.22.
Rodolfo Martinez RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's, Save(14).  ERA= 0.89.


Augusta Greenjackets vs Charleston River Dogs postponed.


  1. Dr. B, would you say Hinosa and Shaw have done enough to merit national attention and get on some top 100 lists? Shaw in particular seems to be a really exciting power prospect. Not sure what will happen with him since we got Belt but I love the idea of another big slugger coming up the ranks.

    1. We'll have to see what happens the rest of the season, but assuming they both continue their current performances, yes, I would think they should be in contention for top 100 prospect status. Of course, the national prospect hounds will scoff and say they are Cal League inflated numbers so it seems you can't win. And, if that is the case, then certainly Austin Slater deserves consideration as he is doing it in the Big Bad Eastern League.
