Down on the Farm: 8/2/2014

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies stomped the Salt Lake City Bees 11-7:

Gary Brown(RF)- 1 for 4, SB(25).  BA= .265.
Darren Ford(CF)- 2 for 4, BB, SB(27).  BA= .305.
Mark Minicozzi(LF)- 3 for 4, HR(8), BB.  BA= .287.
Chris Dominguez(3B)- 1 for 4, HR(18), BB.  BA= .276.

Brown has been playing RF with Darren Ford in CF the last several games.  Not sure what the significance of that is.  Chris Dominguez is on a tear hitting .342 with 6 HR's in his last 10 games.

AA  Altoona Curve outscored the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-6:

Kelby Tomlinson(SS)- 1 for 3, HR(1), BB, HBP.  BA= .265.
Mario Lisson(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B, HBP.  BA= .278.
Blake Miller(2B)- 1 for 2.  BA= .500.

Miller came into the game as a sub for his AA debut.  Elliott Blair has yet to appear since his promotion.

High A  Stockton Ports defeated the San Jose Giants 13-7:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 3 for 5, 2 2B, 3B, BB.  BA= .272.
Mitch Delfino(3B)- 2 for 5, 3B.  BA= .287.
Tyler Horan(LF)- 1 for 3, HR(1), BB, SB(2).  BA= .600.
Chuckie Jones(RF)- 2 for 5.  BA= .255.
Jeff Soptic(RHP)- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.61.

Big game for Galindo.  Hoping Tyler Horan can tear it up the rest of the way and take the Matt Duffy track to Richmond next year.  Soptic has a 1.80 ERA over his last 8 appearances, but is still walking as many batters as he K's.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets stood up to the Kannapolis Intimidators 5-2:

Randy Ortiz(CF)- 0 for 3, 2 BB, SB(5).  BA= .213.
Ty Ross(Catcher)- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(5).  BA= .254.

Ross is hitting .306 over his last 10 games with 3 HR's in his last 5.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes buried the Tri-Cities Dust Devils 12-2:

Skyler Ewing(1B)- 3 for 5, HR(4), BB.  BA= .314.
Austin Slater(RF)- 2 for 6.  BA= .469.
Jason Forjet(RHP)- 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 3.65.

The Volcanoes were the beneficiaries of 12 walks in the game.

Rookie AZL  Giants topped the Cubs 7-3:

Angel Pagan(CF)- 1 for 2, BB.  BA= .600.
Daniel Carbonell(RF-CF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .263.
Dylan Davis(LF)- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .304.
Rodney Price(1B)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .275.
Hector Mercedes(SS)- 3 for 4.  BA= .319.
Jonah Arenado(3B)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .273.
Stetson Woods(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Dylan Brooks(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.15.

Pagan says he feels great and will go to Fresno for a rehab stint.  Gotta be rooting hard for Carbonell.  Fine outings for the Tall Ones, Woods and Brooks.  I'm feeling really good about the recent performances of The Four Kids:  Woods, Brooks, Webb and Rayan Hernandez.

DSL  Giants edged the Rockies 2-1:

Deiyerbert Bolivar(LHP, 18 yo)- 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.56.

  1. Dominguez, he can LF, RF, 3B, 1B and SS - is that right?

    Can he play 2B?

    1. He has played all of those positions. Not sure how well. He seems best suited for 3B or RF because of that rocket arm.

  2. As usual, the system starts to kick up in the 2nd half. Which makes a statement calling the Gints a "nuclear wasteland" so snarky and nonsensical. I have a new idea for a portion of the Giants interwebz: they need to have their fanhood revoked and become Padre fans. There should be some consequences for all the smack that gets thrown down.

  3. An interesting stat with the Squirrels...

    1 DP (Tomlinson-Stromsmoe-Villanona)
    Outfield Assists: 2 Stromsmoe

I hope the Giants let this kid have at least one AB in the bigs..
I remember when Ford was everybody's base stealer, but I think I would have taken Skyler after watching them with the Baby Giants. If Skyler could hit a lick, he would be the ideal utility man!

    1. He even pitches now and then, but don't hold your breath 'til he gets even a cup of coffee.
