Thanks for running these #'s. I gave up long ago when there were too many NTSH's.
ReplyDeleteSay, are we going to see Strickland in September?
Is Kelby Tomlinson like a fast Jamey Carroll?
Since Strickland is on the 40 man roster, we may well see him in September.
DeleteI know that Jason Forjet is old for SK but you can't help look at his stats. 7-1 2.94 ERA 82K/15BB. I think they need to be a little aggressive due to his age and put him at Richmond. With Blach, Crick and Blackburn possibly going to Fresno in 2015, Richmond would be a good spot for him.
ReplyDeleteI like what Jason Forjet and Ethan Miller have done at S-K this year. I'm guessing we see them both in SJ next year.
DeleteWith what we know from recent experiences and the history of Tommy John, as far as recovery times go, the nature and severity of the injury and the trials of one very well known bearded gentleman (& his rarity of 2 surgeries) should Giants org. be maximizing now with Hunter Strickland??
ReplyDeleteSince the stats show you've got somewhat of a shelf life after returning from the surgery, should we get all we can out of him ASAP before the elbow fatigues & probably falters again? Pretty amazing what this kid is doing after barely returning, his confidence appears to be soaring and boy does this team need a jolt. Obviously next year might be time to have this kid in the pen, sitting next to Tim L. on the bench waiting for the phone to ring.
I have seen STRICKLAND pitch a few times this year and, while I don';t know how good Ray Black is, IMO STRICKLAND is the best relief pitcher and has the best stuff in the Giant organization, including Hall, Okert, Law (pre-injury) and others (And that's saying a lot because these kids are good also)...And this is coming back from TJ...The kid is major league ready NOWand we better see him in SF in September and look forward to him in SF next year, possibly even fighting for the closer's spot...

AFL selections were made public today:
ReplyDeleteAFL Giants: Clayton Blackburn, Erik Cordier, Steven Okert, Hunter Strickland, Blake Miller, Daniel Carbonell
Good selections in my book..all six have performed very well this year, earned the selection and should be Major leaguers...
Blackburn: Missed innings and time this year so he should still be fresh and great to keep challenging him with top prospects..
Miller: Has crushed it in both the CAL and EL why not see how he does against some more top prospects and maybe see what position he's best at?
CARBONNEL: Great selection..has handled and been exciting through 2-3 levels in a short season for hm..Great chance to see if he can do it some more and be a Giant OF of the future.
Cordier: I know he's a little older but he has seemed to harness his fastball and control this year where, if he continues, he may indeed have a home in the Giant bullpen instead of being the another ERIK THREETS
STRICKLAND : again, has been the best reliever in the Giant org and his workload hasn't been too tuff but I hope the Giants keep in mind his recovery from TJ and shut him down at the least possible signal..
Okert : Also a little leery of this one..Not because of his performance or stuff, both have been fantastic this year as he has flown up to the EL, but worry if he hasn't pitched enough already
SteveVA
Not sure what the purpose of Cordier is. He's surpassed the 50 IP mark and it would seem the know who he is and have spent ample time working on his command. What's Cody Hall up to these days? And what about Ray Black? How about Adalberto Mejia for that matter? Keury Mella etc...
DeleteHall hasn't pitched since the beginning of August, don't know what the injury is...Arguments could be made for both Mieja and Mella I guess but both have had inconsistent years with some injuries...Maybe next year will be a better time...Ditto for Black after his first healthy year in three...maybe next year they take the gloves off with him....As for Cordier, I hear ya..but he has seemed to have a better 2nd half where he has mostly harnessed his control..Maybe the Giants have found something that they want to keep him working on?
DeleteSteveVa
why wouldn't they consider bringing Cordier up in September? or maybe they are considering that - him on the 40 man and all.
Deletethrowing another name out there - Kendry Flores. Is he shut down for year? Why isn't he ticketed for AFL?
ReplyDeleteDuffy is on the list, but shows LAD as parent team.
ReplyDeleteTBox
I think there is another Matt Duffy in the minors.
DeleteThe other Matt Duffy is a 3B with the Astros so he would have to be on the Salt River team, but he doesn't show on their roster.
