The enthusiasm from last night's game carried over into the top of the first inning as Hunter Pence gave the Giants a 2-0 lead with his 18'th HR of the season, but it all came to a halt as Tim Lincecum continued his struggles against a team and in a ballpark he has always struggled with. Key Lines"
Hunter Pence- 2 for 4, HR(18). BA= .284. Pence is pretty much right no track for his standard stat line a the end of the season. He is one of the most consistent players I've ever seen or heard of.
Pablo Sandoval- 3 for 4. BA= .288. Sandoval is on a drive to hit .300. At his current pace, he'll make it easily.
Tim Lincecum= 2.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.64. The wheels are off and Bochy sounded a lot like this might be Timmy's last start for awhile. He is not a competitive MLB pitcher right now. The Giants are on the hook for $20 M for next year so they better figure out how to fix him before then.
Yusmeiro Petit- 4.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.59. Another fantastic relief outing for Petit. Since his last start, which did not go well, Petit has pitched 12.1 perfect innings over 6 appearances with 15 K's. Look for him to get another shot at starting in the near future.
The Loss drops the Giants to 4.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West while the Braves lost to the Red 1-0 so the Giants remain 1 game ahead in the race for the second Wild Card slot. The Pirates clobbered the BrewCrew 10-2 to get to 1.5 games behind the Giants.
Ryan Vogelsong tries for a series win facing Stephen Strasburg tomorrow morning on the west coast.
