Down on the Farm: 8/27/2014

AAA  Memphis Redbirds edged the Fresno Grizzlies 5-4:

Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 4, HBP, 3 SB(35).  BA= .269.

AA  Altoona Curve defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-7:

Kelby Tomlinson(SS)- 2 for 5.  BA= .264.
Mario Lisson(3B)- 3 for 3, 2B, HR(18), BB.  BA= .268.
Devin Harris(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .261.
Angel Villalona(1B)- 3 for 4, 2 2B, HR(9).  BA= .216.
Myles Schroder(RF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .250.
Clayton Blackburn(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.31.
Steven Okert(LHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.84.

Angel V has had a tough 2'nd half, but a great game here.  Blackburn follows up the best start of his career with this stinker.

High A  San Jose Giants crushed the Lake Elsinore Storm 13-0:

Daniel Carbonell(CF)- 4 for 5, 2B, BB.  BA= .320.
Chuckie Jones(RF)- 3 for 5, BB.  BA= .259.
Ryan Lollis(LF)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .261.
Mitch Delfino(3B)- 2 for 5, BB.  BA= .289.
Brian Ragira(1B)- 5 for 5, 2B, HR(19).  BA= .260.
Ben Turner(Catcher)- 2 for 5.  BA= .290.
Joe Biagini(RHP)- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.01.
Jake Smith(RHP)- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Ray Black(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.

Ragira's dinger was a grand slam and he drove in a total of 5 runs.  He's had a big second half.  Carbonell continues to show signs that he may be the real deal.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets beat the Savannah Sand Gnats 5-4:

Scott Price(DH)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .278.
Chase Johnson(RHP)- 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 4.57.
Luis Castillo(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(10).  ERA= 3.14.

Chase Johnson certainly runs hot and cold.  Terrific game here.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes topped the Spokane Indians 3-2:

Travious Relaford(SS)- 3 for 4, SB(8).  BA= .280.
Austin Slater(RF)- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .314.
Keury Mella(RHP)- 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.20.
Eury Sanchez(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, Save(13).  BA= 3.66.

Relaford has always had the tools.  He seems to have found a bat this year.  Mella has done nothing to diminish his status as one of the top pitching prospects in the organization this season.

Rookie AZL  Giants pounded the Mariners 9-2:

Richard Amion(CF)- 2 for 5.  BA= .267.
Byron Murray(DH)- 1 for 3.  BA= .274.
Brennan Metzger(LF)- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .342.
John Riley(Catcher)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .183.
Mark Reyes(LHP)- 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.00.
Rayan Hernandez(RHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.53.
Kendry Melo(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 9.53.

Melo has 18 K's in 17 IP but he also has 21 BB's.   I think he has some upside, though.

DSL  Giants blanked the Tigers 2-0:

Prebito Reyes(LHP, 18 yo)- 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.

Tough to find information about the DSL playoffs, but it looks like the Giants won their first round.  They were the Wild Card team.  No information on subsequent rounds if there are any.

  1. Chuckie is having a pretty solid season, after a slow start.

That Carbonell, Ragira, Jones and Delfino part of the lineup is as productive as I have seen out of San Jose in a while..
