Down on the Farm: 8/3/2011

AAA Iowa Cubs defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 9-4:

Brett Pill(1B)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .320.
Brad Eldred(LF)- 3 for 5, HR(20). BA= .271.
Bill Hall(3B)- 2 for 5. BA= .318.
Tyler Graham(CF)- 3 for 4, 2B, SB(52). BA= .278.

Bill Hall accepted the minor league assignment. Graham really has had a fine season. Hope he gets a shot at some point. Eldred is 31 years old. He's a really big guy but has played multiple positions, stolen 6 bags, made several OF assists. Seems like a pretty athletic big guy. He seems like he could help some big league team too.

AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats came from behind to edge the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-3:

Francisco Peguero(DH)- 1 for 4, 3B(5). BA= .279.
Sharlon Schoop(SS)- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .219.
Chuck Lofgren(LHP)- 7.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 0.92.

The walks are a bit much in this one, but Lofgren has done well in his reclamation project so far.

High A High Desert Mavericks blasted the San Jose Giants 8-2:

Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .291.
Jarrett Parker(CF)- 2 for 3, BB, SB(19). BA= .266.
Stephen Harrold(RHP)- 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 8.31.

Low A Savannah Sand Gnats topped the Augusta Greenjackets 2-0:
S2 for 3. BA= .219.
Lorenzo Mendoza(RHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.98.

Rookie AZL Giants were idle.

DSL Giants game was Suspended after one inning with the score tied 0-0.

  1. If this were the 2008 Giants, I'd be all for Eldred and Christian joining Torres and Vogelsong in SF as part of the all 30+ minor league toilers team.

I'm a bit surprised Noonan didn't bounce back to AA, and that Schoop is keeping his place there. I guess they plan on moving Noonan back to Fresno in September.

Just a heads-up -- I've transferred from Blogger to Wordpress, so the blog is now at SFGiantsNirvana.com

    belt sent down...derosa activated

    and the insanity continues

  5. Insanity? I think those are all good moves, Bacci. Belt needs to be playing every day in AAA. DeRosa seems healthy. He might be a nice bat off the bench. Hinshaw has been cluttering up the 40 man long enough.

  6. dfa'ing alex was fine

why you think derosa is gonna do anything one handed, is beyond me

why anyone thinks that huff should be at first the majority of the time, is also beyond me

  7. I think there is more than one reasonable way to look at it. I was a little surprised Belt did not get more PT after he was called up, especially after the great game againts the Dodgers. On the other hand, I'm not sure giving up on Huff is the right thing to do either. Once the Beltran trade went down, there was no place for Belt in the OF so it came down to Huff vs Brandon. I think Bochy still thinks Huff can be valuable down the stretch and Belt is an unknown quantity.

I'm OK with the moves and they are of little or no consequence in the bigger picture.
