Down on the Farm: 8/10/2011

AAA Omaha Stormchasers edged the Fresno Grizzlies 7-6:

Edgar Gonzalez(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(11), BB. BA= .316.
Max Ramirez(C)- 2 for 3, HR(8). BA= .286.

Christian and Graham also had 2 hits each.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Harrisburg Senators 3-1:

Francisco Peguero(RF)- 2 for 4. BA= .287.
Roger Kieschnick(LF)- 1 for 4, HR(15). BA= .265.
Eric Surkamp(LHP)- 7.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 2.03
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.00.

OK, can we at least move Surkamp up to Fresno so he has a head start on AAA and possibly be ready to call up if the Giants need an emergency starter next year?

HIgh A Cal League idle today.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets blanked the Lexington Legends 5-0:

Chris Lofton(CF)- 2 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .259.
Rafael Rodriguez(LF)- 2 for 4. BA= .243.
Taylor Rogers(RHP)- 9 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.03.

This was Lofton's 3'rd straight 2 hit game.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes topped the Spokane Indians 7-6:

Joe Panik(SS)- 1 for 3, BB, SB(9). BA= .335.
Kaohi Downing(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(6). BA= .315.
Chuckie Jones(LF)- 1 for 2, HR(2), BB. BA= .250.

Apparently Panik came out early last night just because it was a blowout game.

Rookie AZL Giants beat the Indians 7-2:

Jose Cuevas(3B)- 4 for 5, 2B, 2 SB(6). BA= .341.
Leonardo Fuentes(DH)- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .286.

Fuentes is hitting .317/.378/.537 over his last 10 games.

harper may be ready as soon as next spring, to make the bigs...the nats should give him another full year in aaa

it was at least a borderline, and rule number 1...cant argue balls and strikes...and umps remember when you do

of course, that was the second time surkamp k'd harper...so he was probably frustrated

dont understand why ford is doing his rehab in richmond and not sj...unless its cuz the org wants him to see more quality pitchers

  2. I read an interview with Sabean that they rated Surkamp higher then Wheeler.. Interesting.. I would like to see how Kieshnick and even Dominguez progress in AAA next year.. Some players put it together late.. Mark Trumbo wasn't a highly regarding prospect, had one monster year in AAA, and has 22 hrs for the Halos this year with a .260 ave.. I'm not saying thats going to happen for Kieshnick, but he has a good power stroke that I remember from the Hawaii winter league days..

  3. It will be interesting to see how Surkamp's stuff plays at higher levels. Forced to choose, I'd take the younger guy with the heat, but that's just me.

Roger K has stayed healthy this year. That was his most important task. He's also kept his head above water in the EL. Now he seems to have gotten his power stroke back. As long as his back holds up, I'm cautiously optimistic about him. Maybe he's the reason why they felt they could trade Neal?

  4. My preference has been Surkamp and I too would like to see him in AAA soon. Flame throwing is nice but I'll take accuracy every time.

Question for you Dr. B: what happened to Hector S? Since going back down he has virtually disappeared from radar.

As a first time responder I want to thank you for your blog. Since finding it yours is my first stop after the Chron and Baggs. Plus we share the experience of having grown up with Say Hey, Stretch, The Dominican Dandy, JRH, and another Like JRH, Tom Haller, who was one of my heroes.

  5. Anon,

Thank you. Glad you like the blog.

Hector Sanchez has had a wild ride. His head is still spinning. The current cold stretch is a small sample size and he may be in a bit over his head. Don't forget he started out as one of the younger players in High A ball.
