One of Kroons BBs was intentional, but otherwise about as bad as it could be with a 2-1 lead. Gillaspie's HR was an inside the parker where the outfielder didn't agree with the ump that it was a fair ball.
ReplyDeleteSo...
ReplyDeleteThe $64,000 question is...
Who gets the SJ 1B job next year?
Oropesa or Thomas? Or, even more extreme...
Has Thomas made Oropesa's signing a luxury instead of a requirement?
A third round draft pick will always get the priority over a late rounder. Of the 3 remaining high draft picks left unsigned, I believe Ricky's contract is the most likely to get done. Susac has 2 years of college eligibility left so has that extra leverage. With Osich the question is whether he's healthy or not. Ricky loses all of his leverage if he goes back to school and the Giants don't want to lose out on 3 of their top 10 picks. There is strong incentive on both sides to get a deal done. Short answer, I think Ricky will be the first baseman at SJ next year.
ReplyDeleteAs for Thomas, there is a long list of late round first base picks who have done well in rookie and short season ball and then stalled out at higher levels so it's way early to get too excited with him.
Blackburn, mejia and crick have all been making me feel real good post-wheeler. Yes they're all in rookie ball, but theyre among the younger guys in the league. And they're dominating. I like it!
ReplyDeleteYup, and would add in Emmanuel De Jesus down the DSL who has been pretty dominating too.
ReplyDeleteDoc, would you care to or is it possible to get some background on the Blackburn kid? He's really tearing it up with a great GO/FO ratio plus K/BB, so it leaves me wondering where he came from and whether he was a potential breakout candidate from the beginning.
ReplyDeleteDoc, you have mentioned a few times that Marlowe and Black have signed, but I have not seen this anywhere else. Are you sure about these signings?
ReplyDeleteHow about the rest ofthe HS kids? Right after the draft, there was guy posting on the Disney boards who claimed to be one of Leslie's teachers and he said the kid was very excited to get his career started with the G's.
When is the deadline, BTW?
I don't have any info on Blackburn except that he is a big HS kid who seems to fit the mold of what Tidrow and Sabean look for.
ReplyDeleteInfo on Marlowe and Black came from fla-giant over on mccoveychronicles.com. He's usually pretty on top of things. Hope it's true.
Deadline is 8/15.
