The Giants continued to draft potential power bats on Day 3 of the draft before turning to pitching for 5 of their last 6 picks.
Round 11, #328. Andy Polanco OF, HS. DOB: 4/29/2005, B-R, T-R, 6'4", 195 lbs.
Not much information on this HS prospect who was born in the Dominican Republic but gotta love the size if nothing else. He and Dakota Jordan look like the two over-slot bonus babies this year.
Round 12, #358. Zander Darby 3B, College(UCSB). DOB: 11/26/2002. B-L, T-R. 6'3", 197 lbs.
2022: .241/.381/.454, 7 HR, 20 BB, 35 K, 135 PA.
2022(WCL): .284/.375/.486, 5 HR, 14 BB, 31 K, 126 PA.

2023: .292/.404/.407, 3 HR, 21 BB, 23 K, 137 PA.
2024: .275/.347/.420, 6 HR, 22 BB, 40 K, 223 PA.
Hit over power but with power potential. Looked poised to have a huge junior season after a strong summer on the Cape, but had a modest regression which hurt his stock. Round 12 seems like a great slot to see if he can bounce back.
Round 13, #388. Drake George RHP, College(Lewis-Clark St). DOB: 9/30/2001. 6'1", 184 lbs.
2022: 3-1, 4.62, 50.2 IP, 21 BB, 56 K.
2023: 1-4, 6.92, 39.0 IP, 17 BB, 29 K.

2024(CRCL): .326/.484/.630, 3 HR, 14 BB, 11 K, 62 PA.
Big lefty slugger with excellent plate discipline. One of handful of D1 college hitters with 20 or more HR's in consecutive seasons. Too slow to play anywhere but 1B or DH.
Round 15, #448. Evan Gray RHP, College(St Louis U). DOB: 4/10/2001. 6'4", 205 lbs.
2024: 2-2, 3.41, 29 IP, 9 BB, 33 K, 3 Saves.
Lower Level college closer.
Round 16. #478. Tyler Switalski LHP, College(West Virginia). DOB: 6/18/2003, 6'4", 235 lbs.
2024: 5-3, 5.10, 67 IP, 35 BB, 58 K.

Round 19. #568. Ryan Ure LHP, College(Oklahoma St). DOB: 8/29/2002. 6'8", 234 lbs.
2024: 1-0, 4.91, 3.2 IP, 4 BB, 7 K's.
6' 8" LHP's who throw 103 MPH don't grow on trees. Missed 2023 with TJ surgery.
Round 20. #598. Fernando Gonzalez C, College(Georgia). DOB: 12/2/2001, 5'10", 199 lbs.
2024: .292/.364/.532, 9 HR, 15 BB, 31 K, 200 PA.
Senior Catcher from a top program in the elite conference.
Thanks for your great draft rundown Doc. Looks like the Giants concentrated on drafting power bats, maybe a need they addressed in their farm system. I liked the Tibbs pick since draft nicks think he will move quickly thru their Minor league system. The Giants must be thrilled drafting an athletic talent like Dakota Jordan in the 4th round. Hope they give him an overshot sighing bonus
ReplyDeleteRound 18. #538. Ryan Slater RHP, a Gator to chum with James Tibbs III!
ReplyDeleteHe have to hustle to keep up with Tibbs who is expected to be a quick climb!
There must be more to Slater than his stats, or maybe SF is just hooked on having a Slater – Austin was from Florida (Jacksonville), Ryan from the west coast north of Clearwater (and St Pete).
Slater may well have faced Tibbs as he pitched 6.0 innings against Florida State, April 11, 2023.
Doc, a 4.62, 6.92, and a 4.91 era for Drake George is considered solid numbers?? Please share insight into how that’s solid. To the average eye, that doesn’t look solid
ReplyDeleteLOL ERA. The K BB ratios are solid.
DeleteThanks for the content! My first reaction to Tibbs was "yawn." But the hit tool is the only one that really matters and he looks like a ballplayer. Seems like a player that fits the Panik/Arroyo/Jones philosophy. Love the emphasis on power in the draft as its has been difficult for them to add power free agents. Hopefully one or two of them put it together. If not it will be fun to follow in the minors.

DeleteAmen.
Jenkins is a beast..I think MLB had him at 199..Giants got some good value with their picks...At least one of the Power hitters has to pna out! To go with ELDRIDGE!
