Game Wrap 7/13/2024: Twins 4 Giants 2

Welp, I was just settling into my recliner/rocking chair to watch a ballgame when all hell broke loose in the country(which seems like it happens way to often these days) so I can't say I watched this one other than periodic check-ins on GameDay.  Hayden Birdsong had a strong start but didn't get much run support as the Giants lost for the 5'th time in 7 games.  Key Lines:

Patrick Bailey C- 2 for 4, 3B.  BA= .283.  Bailey's triple came with 2 outs and the bases empty and Chapman couldn't bet him home.  Bailey also had a passed ball that caused an unearned run against Birdsong.

Mike Yastrzemski RF- 2 for 4.  BA= .230.  YtY and Bailey were the two Giants with 2 hits but YtY was charged with a fielding error that allowed Matt Wallner to take 3B after he hit what should have been a double.  Wallner then scored on Bailey's passed ball.

Hayden Birdsong RHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K's, 2 HBP.  ERA= 3.72.  Not the most dominating line you'll see but considering his youth and inexperience it's quite solid and consistent with his 3 prior starts.

The Loss drops the Giants 4 games off the pace for a Wild Card playoff spot.

Blake Snell LHP tries to build on his last strong start and take the Giants into the All-Star Break on a winning note facing Giants nemesis Chris Paddack RHP.

  1. It's hard to comment while watching your team slip into oblivion.
A win today would lift spirits but the real test will be what team comes out of the gate after the A/S break: 3 in Colorado followed by 4 in LA.
Then it's home and soft starting July 26th until the trade deadline 3 p.m. on July 30.
    When are trade decisions made?
The Giants NEED an RBI guy for the center of the lineup.
They NEED to score more runs.
Do we know that the RBI-guy is not Chapman, Soler, or Conforto? It hasn't been so far.
Is it Ramos – the team leader in RBIs (with the 6th highest number of ABs) but oh-so-young and inexperienced. Do the Giants want that pressure on their prize 24-year old?
Is it Bailey? He's hasn't looked good in just 44 PAs (.180/250/.308/.558) – he's not Buster Posey.
Who else? Can they trade for one?
The Giants have some young pitching they could trade but is it worth the risk?
