This game started out promising enough as the lineup staked Logan Webb RHP to a 2-run lead in the first inning. Webb sailed through the first 4 innings but gave up a 3-run HR in the 5'th, then the wheels came off in the 6'th as the Blue Jays extended their lead to 9-3. Back-to-Back HR's by Patrick Bailey C and Matt Chapman 3B in the 9'th inning were too little, too late.
Lamonte Wade Jr 1B(.316), Bailey(.280) and Michael Conforto LF(.241) had 2 hits each.
Chapman has been an essential key to what success SF has had thus far this year, so the following comment is somewhat gratuitous.
ReplyDeleteHis bases empty 9th inning HR was the proverbial "too little too late":
He struck out in the 1st with runners an 1st and 3rd, 1 out;
He popped out in the 2nd with the bases loaded, 2 outs;
He flied out in the 5th with runner on 1st, 1 out;
He flied out in the 6th with the bases loaded.
Could the normally reliable Chapman have made a difference in this game? Maybe, but the villain was the strange failure pitching.
Was that Luke Jackson's last hurrah?
