Game Wrap 7/12/2024: Giants 7 Twins 1

A relentless attack by the Giants lineup backed a strong pitching performance by Kyle Harrison and three relievers.  Key Lines:

Jorge Soler DH- 2 for 4, 3B, BB.  BA= .228.  Nice game for Soler but he's hitting just .213 over his last 7 games.

Heliot Ramos CF- 2 for 4.  BA= .304.  Ramos stays steady leading up to a well-deserved All-Star Game appearance.  He also made a couple of big league plays in CF.

Michael Conforto LF- 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .239.  Conforto seems to have found some traction hitting .280 over his last 7 games and .279 over his last 15.  Can he stay health ROS?

Brett Wisely SS- 3 for 3, 2B, 3B, BB.  BA= .286.  Wisely has a huge game after going 0 for 7 in his last two.  He also made some good plays at SS although LMWJ saved him with leaping catch and tag on one play.  Heliot is getting a lot of well-deserved attention for his breakout season but what about Wisely?  He's having quite a breakout season of his own at age 25 just one year older than Heliot and after 1500 minor league PA's.  We tend to get all excited over fast risers and scream for promotions after a prospect has a couple of good weeks but sometimes patience is a virtue when it comes to player development, especially for hitters.

Kyle Harrison LHP- 5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 5/1.  ERA= 4.08.  It was a good effort by Harrison but he had some pretty serious BABIP luck on his side.  The K's, GO's and AO's add up to 9 but Harrison recorded 13 outs.  The other 4 were lineouts to OF's, so he wasn't really fooling anyone.  Those 4 lineouts were not easy plays for the OF's.

Ryan Walker RHP, Tyler Rogers RHP and Camilo Doval RHP pitched a scoreless final 3.2 innings.

With the Win, the Giants remain 3 games behind in the Wild Card playoff race.

Hayden Birdsong RHP makes his fourth MLB start in a late afternoon game facing Simeon Woods-Richardson RHP.

  1. Wisely was a nice pickup by FZ. Tampa liked him but had no room for him so traded Wisely for Tristin Peter's (of). Wisely gave credit to Sacramento hitting coach Damon Minor for working on his swing with him. Minor seems to doing a nice job there. Look at what Ramos has become. Maybe Solar might have a career year in the future as a Giant, but the hitter I was hoping they sign was JD Martinez. Turns out he turned down more money from the Giants to sign with the Mets citing oracle Park as not a hitter friendly place to hit. He said something to the effect that if he signed with the Giants and hit 260 then teams will think he's going downhill.
