Game Wrap 7/22/2024: Dodgers 3 Giants 2

The Giants lineup could not muster enough runs to support a Quality Start by Blakc Snell.  Key Lines:

Lamonte Wade Jr 1B- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .311.  Only 3 hitters in the lineup had.....hits.  LMWJ and Patrick Bailey had 4 of the Giants 5 hits and 6 of 10 times reaching base.

Tyler Fitzgerald SS= 1 for 3, HR(5), BB.  BA= .299.  Fitz is the Giants hot hitter du jour.  4 HR's in 4 games.  The last Giants player to do that is reportedly Brandon Belt.  Speaking of....why wasn't Belt signed to be the DH for a fraction of what Jorge Soler cost?

Heliot Ramos CF- 0 for 4.  BA= .287.  We are witnessing Ramos' regression.  Pitchers around the league discovered he can't lay off the high fastball and are wearing out the top of the zone.  He'll have to make the counter-adjustment.

Blake Snell LHP- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 9/2.  ERA= 5.83.  The pitching infusion alone is not going to save this season.  Giants need lineup help.

The Loss drops the Giants back to a 4-game deficit in the Wild Card race.

Jordan Hicks RHP tries to even the 4-game series tomorrow evening facing Landon Knack RHP.

Churn Watch:  Giants acquired Mike Baumann RHP from the Mariners for cash and placed him on the 26-man active roster.  Hayden Birdsong RHP was optioned to A San Jose.  Before you all go ballistic, it appears this a procedural and he'll be brought back to start in Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies.  Yes, a doubleheader.

  1. Time to sell high on Webb and Snell for promising bats. One good start out of Ray and/or Cobb and sell high there, too. Someone will want Chapman, Conforto and Soler. Birdsong, Winn, Harrison, Black, Blevins, Whisenhunt SPs of the future. Giants need a line-up that can score more than 3 runs a game.

    1. Keep Webb. But otherwise agree. Snell alone may bring a real haul if they eat his 24 salary.

  2. By Saturday it won't matter who pitches!

  3. I agree with selling but not Webb! Snell may have some value as a rental. I’d keep Ray though. Then you have Birdsong, Webb, Ray, Harrison and Hicks. With guys in AAA. I’d sell Doval. F-Rod could close. Any takers among Yaz, Conforto and Theo would be ok with me. Salary dump.

  4. I'd like the Giants to look toward 2025 and beyond regarding trades at the deadline. The 2025 rotation looks good when you start off with Webb, Harrison, Hicks, maybe Ray, Snell and young pitching led by Birdsong. I'd be shocked if Ray opts our of a contract that pays $25 mil the next couple of years. I'd like them to consider trading Camilo Doval if they can get a couple of young players in return. A player that can help in 2025. Closer like Doval should be in high demand for contenders.

  5. i think it's becoming time to purge the majority of the kapler holdovers at the deadline. i'd be open for business to moving conforto, yaz, and thairo at the deadline. i'd move on from wilmer at the trade deadline and give encarncion, schmitt, and villar extended looks after the deadline. i do think farhan will be on the hot seat going into 2025.

  6. Perhaps you didn't see the inept play in Deep LF-CF by the 'os boys that led to what was the winner, not that the ̶G̶i̶a̶n̶t̶s̶ were ever going to score again.
Maybe it was payback anyway since the Dodgers gave SF a run.

  7. depending on rest of Dodger series and weekend with the Rockies which doesn't seem promising we should have a fire sale and try to trade Chapman, Conforto Yaztremski, Wilmer, Snell, Ray and even Wade, bring up the kids and let's see what happens. We should get some value for these trade options. I would like to see Luciano, Villar, Encarnacion and McCray come up as well Black and Weisenhunt on the pitching side. I feel the year is over. This current team reminds me of the teams in the early to mid 80's when there were a lot of veterans mixed in with some rookies who were always giving you hope but would go on to lose 90 plus games. Ahh the days of Bristol and Davenport.. Those Were The Days My Friend We Hoped They Would Only End!!!

  8. The DH for both LA & SF are leading off.
Ohtani and Soler have nothing else in common.
Some on KNBR say that's FZ's call, Melvin isn't that stupid.
