Down on the Farm: 7/13/2024

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats outscored the Salt Lake City Bees 11-8:

Marco Luciano 2B- 4 for 5, 2 HR(6), BB.  BA= .247.
Casey Schmitt 3B- 3 for 4, BB, SF.  BA= .291.

Jakson Reetz C- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .257.
Christian Koss SS- 3 for 4, HR(1), BB.  BA= .250.

Huge game for Luciano who seems to have gotten past the post-demotion funk.  He is 6 for 9 with 2 BB's over his last 2 games and is hitting .316 in July.  Villar could be a future call up too if the Giants go with a full-blown youth movement after the All-Star Break.

Wil Jensen RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.31.

Cameron Cotter RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.50.

A:  San Jose Giants defeated the Visalia Rawhide 8-4:

Luke Shliger C- 3 for 4, BB.  BA= .215.

Elian Rayo DH- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .253.
Dylan Carmouche LHP- 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 2.85.

Probably time for Charlie Szykowny to get a promotion.  A ball is too low a level for a 24 yo drafted out of college.  Ditto Dylan Carmouche although he's only 22 yo.

ACL:  Giants beat the Athletics 6-1(7 innings):

Walker Martin SS- 1 for 3. BA= .223.
Rayner Arias CF- 2 for 3, 2 2B.  BA= .241.

  1. Has Meckler found his stroke after a rash of injuries slowed him to a an after thought?

  2. Wonder why Charlie Szykowny hasn't been moved up by now, there's little more for him to prove in A-ball.
Is a 19% K-rate high for a guy slashing .306/.386/.462/.848 in 50 games, 220 PAs? He's among the leaders in the California League in most hitting stats.
Doc had it right when he wrote:
