Game Wrap 6/22/2018: Padres 6 Giants 2

The Giants offense sputtered against lefty Clayton Richard and the Giants failed to take advantage of a Quality Start by Chris Stratton.  Key Lines:

Gorkys Hernandez CF- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .286.  Gorkys led off the Giants first inning with a drive up Triples Alley that Margot was just able to cut off at the warning track to hold him to a double.  He came around to score on a Wild Pitch to get the Giants the first lead of the game.  Gorkys doubled again later in the 6'th inning but with 2 outs and was stranded when Buster Posey's liner was caught by Wil Myers in LF.

Chris Stratton RHP- 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.14.  Even though he did not walk anyone, I thought Stratton's command was off, especially early in the game.  All of his pitches were up in the strike zone.  I felt like he was fortunate to not give up more runs than he did.  He did seem to settle down a bit until the 6'th inning.  Once the Padres got that lead, you kind of knew the game was over.

All other NL West teams won, so the Giants fell into 4'th place, 5 games behind the division leading D'Backs.  The Dodgers are 2.5 games behind the leaders, the Rockies are 4.5 games back and the Padres remain 8.5 games behind in last place.

Andrew Suarez tries to get the Giants back to .500 today facing Jordan Lyles.

  1. 2 runs, 1-6 RISP, sloppy D, forget it relief from Johnson and Smith (!) -- need a shutout for that to be a winning line!
Richard has always been a thorn, Padres have stiffened their BP, and some games are not meant to be.
Do you think Bochy will keep playing Williamson (June: .154/.279/.231) until Mac either gets "it" or gets hurt?
Cueto to start in Sacramento tonight!

  4. Not that it wasnt deserved by Mac's poor performance since coming back, but you could smell this one coming a hundred miles away no matter what Bochy said to the media...Williamson only gets back if the Giants throw in the towell...At least Slater deserved the recall..just hope he's not totally wasted
