Down on the Farm: 4/20/2015

AAA  Salt Lake City Bees stung the Sacramento River Cats 9-5:

Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 3, HBP, Sac.  BA= .267.
Jarrett Parker(DH)- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .282.
Brett Jackson(RF)- 2 for 5.  BA= .310.
Braulio Lara(LHP)- 3.2 IP, 11 H, 9 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 8.78.
Cody Hall(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.  BA= 0.00.
Steven Okert(LHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K.  ERA= 1.23.

Lara obviously got shelled.  The bullpen was good.  Andy Skeels is the hitting coach in Sacramento and I'm liking what I''m seeing from some of the Sac hitters.  Of course, it IS the PCL.

AA  Bowie Baysox topped the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-3:

Daniel Carbonell(LF)- 2 for 4, 2 SB(4).  BA= .178.
Blake Miller(2B)- 3 for 4.  BA= .225.
Joan Gregorio(RHP)- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.08.

Gregorio continues to pitch well out of the bullpen.

High A  San Jose Giants blanked the Inland Empire 66'ers 5-0:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 2 for 4, 2 2B(4).  BA= .255.
Nick Vander Tuig(RHP)- 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 8/2.  ERA= 0.00.
Martin Agosta(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H,  0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 4.1.  ERA= 9.00.
Mason McVay(LHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R,  0 BB, 2 K, Save(1).  ERA= 4.50.

Nice start for Vander Tuig who finally seems to be figuring out how to pitch in the pros, or else he is finally health.  Agosta seems to be slowly but surely coming around too.

Low A  Charleston River Dogs edged the Augusta Greenjackets 5-4:

Johneshwy Fargas(CF)- 2 for 4, BB,  SB(9).  BA= .318.
Aramis Garcia(Catcher)- 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .217.
Sam Coonrod(RHP)- 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.60.
Conner Kaden(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.45.
Rodolfo Martinez(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.25.

Martinez is a major sleeper in the system with a FB that hits the upper 90's.  Goal for this season is to have a decent K/BB signifying improved command.

  2. Fargas and Coonrod are early candidates for breakout prospects of the year in the Giants system. David Lee had an article about Fargas the other day, who is wowing scouts and opposing teams with a plethora of tools. I'm loving his early aggressiveness on the basepaths... I believe he's swiped 3rd 3 or 4 times already.

Augusta gamenotes from last night had Coonrod's fastball in the 90-96 range with a slider that had flashes of above average potential (according to Lee, again). I know the video clips of him from his last start showed a couple hitters WAY behind the fastball. While a few of the bigger names around the organization have scuffled out of the gate, I've got my eyes focused on these two going forward.

  3. Brown got DFAed by the Cards.

Giants done with him? Wouldn't imagine he's going to figure it out now, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to have him stored in Sac.

  4. It looks like the Cardinals also DFA ed Gary Brown. I don't know and I don't want to speculate, but this cannot be good.

  5. I believe there are several minor league OF's in the Giants system who would be ahead of Gary Brown on the OF depth chart. I was surprised when the Cards picked him up in the first place because they certainly don't seem to have depth problems at any position except maybe catcher. I don't know what team or teams might have an opportunity for Brown, but I think it's time for him and the Giants to move on.

BTW, comments implying that Gary Brown somehow did something wrong during his time with the Giants will not get published.
