Brett Jackson is having a surprisingly strong start to his season.  He's got the tools if he can ever put it all together.

AA  New Britain Rock Cats topped the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-2:

Mitch Delfino(3B)- 2 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .262.

Not much to comment on here. Delfino his holding his own in the EL so far.

High A  Bakersfield Blaze edged the San Jose Giants 3-2:

Keury Mella(RHP)- 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 10/5.  ERA= 3.60.
Martin Agosta(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 8.71.

Fairly dominant start for Mella.   Great to see him stretch it out to 7 IP.  Probably too soon to be putting Agosta in high leverage situations.  Baby steps!

  1. Other than that 2-run homer, Mella's start is actually superb and reaching 7 IP is a great sign too in his development. His mechanics though is a concern for me but Petit's mechanics are similar to him and Petit is healthy but we never know if he'll ever blow out. Glad to see Garcia finally hit his first of the year as he's been sluggish early on. Unfortunately, Carbonell is like hitting baseballs with a chopstick right now as he's just bad at the plate early on which concerns me too. It's not just a BABIP problem either. I hope he can put on some good at bats in the next weeks and turn his season around.
