Down on the Farm: 8/5/2014

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies edged the Salt Lake City Bees 6-5:

Angel Pagan(CF)- 1 for 4.  BA= .125.
Gary Brown(LF-CF)- 1 for 4, SB(28).  BA= .265.
Nick Noonan(3B)- 2 for 3, 2 2B.  BA= .248.
Brett Bochy(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.43.

Brown seems to be finding more success on the basepaths of late.  He has 7 SB's against just 1 CS in his last 10 games.

AA  Binghampton Mets outscored the Richmond Flying Squirrels 9-6:

Mario Lisson(3B)- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(14), 2 BB.  BA= .280.
Elliott Blair(LF)- 3 for 4, 2B.  BA= .571.
Adalberto Mejia(LHP)- 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 5.17.
Dan Slania(RHP)- 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K.   ERA= 0.00.

Blair is making the transition from single A ball look easy.  Slania moves up from Augusta.

High A  Bakersfield Blaze roasted the San Jose Giants 8-2:

Mitch Delfino(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .287.
Tyler Horan(DH)- 1 for 3, HR(2), BB.  BA= .417.

Delfino is a guy I think can hit at higher levels.  Horan moved up a level without missing a beat.  Hope to see him in Richmond next year too.

Low A  Greenville Drive pounded the Augusta Greenjackets 8-4:

Will Callaway(3B)- 2 for 3, 2B, 3B, BB.  BA= .261.
Joan Gregorio(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.86.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes were idle.

Rookie AZL  Giants beat the Dodgers 7-1:

Daniel Carbonell(CF)- 2 for 5, 2B, SB(4).  BA= .303.
Aramis Garcia(Catcher)- 3 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .219.
Hector Mercedes(SS)- 2 for 3, 2B.  BA= .329.
Matthew Gage(LHP)- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 1.25.
Stetson Woods(RHP)- 1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Dylan Brooks(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.86.

Carbonell gets his BA over .300.  Will he move up before the end of the season?  Gage seems to be taking the early lead in 2014 college pitching draftees.  He needs to move up to at least S-K, though.  Successful outings for The Two Tall Ones despite giving up some hits.  I'm digging Dylan Brooks newfound strikeout stuff.  What do you think Stetson Woods' warmup music should be?  William Tell Overture?  Theme from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly?  Johnny Cash singing GRITS(Ghost Riders in the Sky)?  Marty Robbins singing the Strawberry Roan?  I'll go with the theme from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, but he could rotate them.

DSL  Giants were leading Yankees1 15-13 when the game was suspended after the top of the 12'th inning:

Mikey Edie(CF, 17 yo)- 0 for 4, 2 HBP, Sac, 2 SB(14).  BA= .301.
Jean Angomas(LF, 19 yo)- 4 for 6, 2 2B.  BA= .302.
Manuel Geraldo(SS, 17 yo)- 2 for 6.  BA= .236.

Edie somehow managed to score 5 runs while going 0 for 4.

  1. Yep..Matt Gage with at least two really good outings in a row..seems to polished for where he is..Move him up....

I still don't know how well DOMINGUEZ is fielding at Short. but can the Giants bring him up for the non-entity that is Arias???

As for Stetson Woods/ song..If you're gonna go JOHNNY CASH..How bout "The Man Comes Around"? Some of the Lyrics work pretty good..music doesn't though...
