Down on the Farm: 4/19/2017

AAA  Salt Lake City Bees stung the Sacramento River Cats 7-4:

Christian Arroyo SS- 4 for 5, 2B, HR(3).  BA= .479.
Jeff Arnold C- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .182.
Jae-Gyun Hwang 3B-2 for 4.  BA= .286.
Tyler Beede RHP- 6.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.78.

Stay hot, Arroyo!  Gotta say, it sure seems like Arroyo could be helping the Giants right now in LF, but he's playing SS in Sacramento.  Per Covechatter's Twitter feed, Bobby Evans says the Giants want him to force his way onto the team. Not sure what their criteria are, but Evans said they want to see more than a 2 week sample size.  I'm guessing he'll stay on the farm at least until they are comfortable that he'll achieve "Super 2" status.  Beede's development is less urgent now that Cain seems to have found his stride.

  1. Personally, I'd like to see Arroyo stay down until there's a need in the infield. It's hard enough to adjust to major league pitching without also having to learn a position. For now, Hwang and Mac replacing Hill and Marrero seems like best case scenario. Move Nunez to a super utility role where he can get 500 AB.

  2. Shaw starting the LF experiment?? VERY interesting. I'd wager that they'll need to see him keep rocking AA pitching for at least 3 months to give him the jump-level call up. Regardless, stay hot Shaw & Arroyo - those are the two big bats in our MiL system, and they're starting to step up right on time!

IMHO, Shaw does not need AAA to prove readiness for the big time. However, high contact rate & some OBP will be essential.

PS - Where is Upton? Is he in extended spring because he didn't get one?? We could use that upgrade in CF right now!

  3. Wow - Great interview with the young Arroyo. He came off pretty mature, able to actually talk and not just regurgitate rehearsed lines.

Like what we're hearing right here about his shifted approach to being "selectively aggressive, instead of simply aggressive. Looking for a zone and not moving outside of that.

  4. Arroyo is an absolute stud. It seems to me like he is very "slump resistant" because of his advanced approach at the plate. He seems to push "reset" after every at bat, very similar to Buster's mentality and makeup. I'm with Bryce - Arroyo is a legitimate big time prospect to me, he does not need to switch positions, he needs to push Nunez into super utility and play the IF if they decide he's ready.
