Down on the Farm: 4/6/2017

Minor league Opening Day.  Here's the breakdown:

AAA  Tacoma Rainiers vs Sacramento River Cats- Postponed.

*************************************************************************************

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels pounded the Hartford Yard Goats 12-1:

Slade Heathcott CF- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(1).  BA= .500.
Miguel Gomez 2B- 2 for 5.  BA= .400.
Chris Shaw 1B- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .250.
Dan Slania RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 1.50.
Christian Jones LHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Jordan Johnson RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Miguel Gomez plays 2B while TJ Bennett moves over to the Hot Corner.  After a 1 month adjustment to AA last year, Shaw hit just about as well in AA as he did for San Jose.  Looking for big things this season and a strong recovery of his stock.  Dominant start for Big Dan Slania.  Jordan Johnson pitches out of the bullpen.

High A  Inland Empire outlasted the San Jose Giants 4-3 in 16 innings:

Jalen Miller SS- 1 for 6, 2 BB.  BA= .167.
Bryan Reynolds CF- 3 for 5, BB.  BA= .600.
Gio Brusa LF- 1 for 6, 3B, BB.  BA= .167.
Mark Reyes LHP- 4 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.50.
Yordy Cabrera RHP, Ryan Halstead RHP, Dylan Rheault RHP- 2 scoreless IP each.
David Owen RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Miller starts at SS with Ryan Howard manning 3B and Dillon Dobson back at 2B.  Miller had a throwing error in the game.  Reynolds started in CF and is off to a great start reaching base 4 times in 7 PA's.  Great work by multiple bullpen pitchers.  Yordy Cabrera might be the most intriguing pitcher on the SJ staff.

Low A Columbia Fireflies doubled up the Augusta Greenjackets 14-7:

Anthony Marks CF- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(1).  BA= .500.
Sandro Fabian RF- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .400.
Manuel Geraldo 3B- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .400.
Will Albertson C- 1 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .333.
Jacob Heyward LF- 0 for 3, 2 BB, SB(1).  BA= .000.

Undrafted FA Marks had the top line of the game for Augusta.  Sandro Fabian off to a nice start. Geraldo started at 3B with Kelvin Beltre moving to the Keystone.  Not sure 2B is the best place to put a guy with Beltre's injury history.
