Down on the Farm: 4/9/2017

AAA  Sacramento River Cats defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 5-1:

Kelby Tomlinson 2B- 3 for 3, HBP, SB(1).  BA= .571.
Christian Arroyo SS- 3 for 4.  BA= .500.
Kyle Blanks 1B- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .143.
Tyler Beede RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.50.
Kyle Crick RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Tomlinson and Arroyo are on fire in the first 2 games.  Blanks drove in 3 runs with his dinger.  Solid start for Tyler Beede.  The 0 BB's are what interest me the most here.  Keep holding your breath for Kyle Crick.  Has he finally turned a corner?

AA  Hartford Yard Goats outscored the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-3:

Miguel Gomez 2B- 2 for 4.  BA= .385.
Cory Taylor RHP- 3.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 12.27.
Pat Young RHP- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Carlos Alvarado RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.50.

Gomez is  hitting in the EL so far.  Disappointing first start for Taylor.  Nice relief efforts by Young and Alvarado, total of 6 K's and 1 BB in 4.1 IP.

High A San Jose Giants pounded the Inland Empire 66'ers 15-4:

Ryan Howard DH- 2 for 5, HR(1), BB.  BA= .364.
Aramis Garcia C- 3 for 6, HR(1).  BA= .389.
Dillon Dobson 2B- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .286.
Jonah Arenado 3B- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .133.
Michael Bernal SS- 3 for 5.  BA= .417.
Johneshwy Fargas CF- 2 for 5, 2B, 3B.  BA= .133.
Michael Connolly RHP- 5.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 10/1.  ERA= 1.69.
Ryan Halstead RHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.

SJ Giants are mixing and matching positions apparently valuing flexibility over consistency.  Very encouraging start to the season for Aramis Garcia!

Low A  Columbia Fireflies blanked the Augusta Greenjackets 6-0:

Sandro Fabian RF- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .250.
Ryan Kirby 1B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .250.
Melvin Adon RHP- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 16.20.
Patrick Ruotolo RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00.

GJ's managed just 3 hits on the day.  Adon obviously wild.

  1. I think with Crick he's a reliever now and can be a good late inning option maybe a closer if his control improves

  2. Agree Johnny. Crick could be a closer "with a wild hair up his nose" as Kruk and Kuip say. Those types of closers with major hear in their fastball and a little wild side on the command scare the crap out of hitters. That would be A-Okay with me.

  4. My goodness Kelby has no business being in Sacramento anymore, too bad. Hopefully we find room for him in some magical way, he's a firecracker for us. Letting Romo walk for cheap was the biggest off-season blunder
