Matt Harrison completely shut down a Giants lineup that was missing its 3 top hitters and the Rangers' offense pecked away with 4 one run innings. Overall, it was a sleep-inducing spectating experience. Key Lines:
No one in the Giants lineup got more than 1 hit. There were no XBH's.
Barry Zito- 6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.24. Zito did not pitch badly, but he was facing a very good offense and Zito is, well, Zito. I'll give him credit for being a gamer out there and lasting 6 innings.
Shane Loux- 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.93. Loux has been surprisingly effective when used.
Steve Edlefsen- 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 4.70. Edlefsen has given up runs in his last 3 appearances in which his ERA has jumped from 2.70 to 4.70. Might be time to look at other options: Kontos? Hacker?
Matt Harrison- 9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.87. I dropped Harrison from my fantasy team after 2 consecutive terrible starts early in the season. That was a mistake!
The Giants remained 4 games behind the NL West leading Dodgers who were no-hit by 6 Mariners pitchers in a 1-0 loss in Seattle.
Ryan Vogelsong goes against Scott Feldman in game two this afternoon. Pablo Sandoval returns a few days early from his rehab assignment after hitting 2 bombs for Fresno last night

...and Edlefsen gets sent out. Kontos gets the call up.
ReplyDeletehold on doc...what happened to...rangers blast giants 5-0...nothing to see here...?
ReplyDeletezito has turned it around....old zito wouldve imploded in the 4th. his curve wasnt sharp and the cutter occasionally grabbed too much of the plate...but he didnt give in...this zito makes me forget how much money he is making
harrison was on, first pitch strikes, busting every batter on the hands...but giants approach was lackadaisical...crowd, save for the melkmen, were dead...
i hate the claw...should be banned for being too cheesy and annoying...its just like that damned halo rally monkey
ryan was in the house...giants must win the next two to make him cry
edlefsen going down was a foregone conclusion...cant have an arm you dont wanna use
pill...not so much....need the brain trust to accept the fact that huff is done and that whether he is sitting on the bench or at home...that money is gone
unless melky is out for the rest of the series...the pablo move was knee jerk and i dont like the lie that all of a sudden, despite is girth, he can play a solid 3rd
Pablo looks like he's in pretty good Pablo shape to me and he's playing a solid 3'rd, so there!
